Need to replace bathroom fan but original hole too large.

Thanks for the continued ideas. Yes, the fan is ducted, a straight run of about 4M. Maybe a 6" fan is the way to go, what do you all think of this one? https://www.screwfix.com/p/manrose-xf150bs-25w-kitchen-extractor-fan-white-240v/11640#product_additional_details_container It says it is for a...

Need to replace bathroom fan but original hole too large.

Thanks for your input Rocky. The fan aperture is 19x19cm though the fan, which sits well within the aperture, is smaller. Thanks for the detailed drawings Sunray, I think what I will do is, as you and Tigercubrider suggest, line the aperture with 2x1 or inch battening but also use a bright white...

Need to replace bathroom fan but original hole too large.

Hi all, My bathroom extractor fan has developed a fault in that it causes the lights to trip out and needs replacing. It seems to be the original fan (well done for 46yrs service) and the (square) hole wherein it is located measures 190x190cm. I can only find replacements measuring around...

Blutooth won't work since HDD replaced

Hi all, My HDD crashed and so, with help from folk on this site, I replaced it and used an ISO file to reload Windows 10. I've got everything back to normal now except that the damn thing won't connect to any blutooth devices. Everything seems normal and I've downloaded the latest blutooth...

    Laptop wont boot

Update. Did a bit of lateral thinking. Office 2007 wouldn't load from disk so I copied the contents of the disk to my desktop and installed from there. It worked fine. Maybe the DVD drive is faulty in some way? Anyone else come across this? Only got one last problem now, I can't get the laptop...

    Laptop wont boot

All my fault I'm afraid. I had downloaded a 32bit version of Windows onto the memory stick and I think I was installing it multiple times, filling up the hard drive. I downloaded the 64bit version and it loaded perfectly. There are a couple of outstanding issues though: I cannot install MS...

    Laptop wont boot

Plugged in an ethernet and Windows started installing again. The machine has set 2 partitions. The first 'system' type installed v quickly but the 2nd 'primary' is a chore. It allocated 465.7GB and proceeded to install 6GB at a time, rebooting after each 6GB. I am now in a position whereby the...

    Laptop wont boot

The enclosure worked fine Ross. I managed to transfer the contents of my desktop to an external HD. The repkacement laptop HD arrived today, so I installed it, switched the laptop on with the mem stick with the ISO tool loaded in and it seemed to be installing Windows fine until I got this...

    Rising damp?

Spoke to the neighbour last night and he tells me the wobbly floor was on the other side of the house, next to the party wall of the next terraced house along and that it was due to loose floorboards. They noticed a musty smell when they removed them and got the builder who did their kitchen to...

    Rising damp?

Hi Tel and everyoneinputting to this thread, I'm pretty sure that the neighbours, once they had fixed their wobbly floor, installed an engineered wood floor over the floorboards. However, there was a musty smell noticable when I took the floorboards on my side up. I'm meeting with the neighbour...

    Rising damp?

Thanks for your detailed response Tel. I assume the exterior wall is solid. It doesn't sound hollow when I knock on it. It is about 9 inches thick from o/s brickwork to interior plaster. Here is a pic of the interor of the o/s wall As you can see there is v little damp on it. Here's the pic...

    Laptop wont boot

Thanks for the confrmation Mike. I've just had the HHD enclosure arrive and it seems to be transferring the contents of my desktop to a 500G external drive, so I shd save my files. Thanks for the tip Ross. I've also downloaded the ISO software onto a 16G mem stick. My intention is to try the...

    Rising damp?

Hi Tel, First of all, the damp is not in the line of where the chimney breast would have been, rather it is to either side with the side nearest the corner by far the worst. The neighbour tells me that their chimney breast is still in place with a vent at the bottom. Here are the pics you...
