    Soil stack

Was able to here, because there should only ever really be a negative pressure on our property. Its located at the very end of the soil pipe run outside, and every other house on the run has their vent pipe still. but because ours is on the end, any water flowing along the drain will only...

    Soil stack

No it won't, that's what an air admittance valve is for! When you flush the toilet it creates a negative pressure which opens the valve allowing air in, then after it closes again so no nasty smells. That's wha they are designed for, some properties now don't even have a conventional vent...

    Soil stack

We did the same thing, because the old soil stack was running up the wall of the bathroom and it looks a little unsightly outside sticking out of the roof. So cut it off and removed it, replacing with air admittance valve. Dont know about in your circumstances, but in ours we removed the...

    Slow Internet

Getting BT to change the master socket above for one of the newer NTE5 boxes is said to give a very slight improvement. The newer boxes with the bell wire filter have the BT openreach logo, rather than the old BT logo.

    trickle vents

Better to not fit trickle vents, and solve the ventilation problem with an alternative solution if possible as I remember reading something about trickle vents essentially being outlawed under EU rules in or around 2016. Because of the amount of heat that can be lost through them... the more...

    Have I Been Had?

couple of possibilities, assuming its had 4 new disks/drums and new pads all round. cheap pads, cheap pads are known to squeak. haven't used something like ceratec on the reverse of the pad.. copper grease is an alternative but some people frown upon it... ceratec is designed for that...

Opinions please on if this re-felting is acceptable

could be wrong, but no condensation shouldnt form in the loft as far as I know. that is why you insulate the floor of the loft to keep the heat down inside the house, use breathable membranes and make sure the loft has adeqaute ventilation in the eves so airflow flows through the loft and it...

    spot the errors..

MK are ok, but quality has gone down. I find them ok to work with, a reasonable amount of space inside and look nice on the outside. quality wise though, they have gone down though, one time I was tightening up an MCB terminal, on top, and because once you get to a certain tightness the...

stopcock turns on but no water

Was thinking more along the lines of the risk of lead poisoning from the vapour given off, or molten lead getting in contact with skin as its melting point is higher than 100 degrees and it can become a little volatile and splash.

stopcock turns on but no water

Being a Victorian house.. easier said than done if the valve has a lead pipe sweated straight onto the stop cock. DIYers shouldn't really be trying to melt the lead if they have no experience because lead poisoning is a big risk.
