    Virgin Media - Equipotential Bonding

Thanks for the replies :) That has cleared it up for me now lol. I was under the assumption that the braid was not isolated, because from the isolators fitted in the house here... the outer braid connects to the metal connector.. which then screws onto a metal isolator.. and the connector...

    Virgin Media - Equipotential Bonding

Phone cables are different in the sense that the wires connect into plastic faceplates, and have no extraneous conductive parts. The VM coax cables are the opposite, metal splitters, metal casings on their boxes, metal connectors.. And because the boxes have 230v running through them.. IF and...

    Virgin Media - Equipotential Bonding

Isolator doesn't isolate the outer braid of the coax, it only isolates the inner core. Has metal connector on their drop cable on 1 side of isolator, isolator is made of metal, and connector other side is metal, so the path is continued. If you get a multimeter and touch it on the...

    Virgin Media - Equipotential Bonding

On a roll it seems... question time lol Interesting thing ive been thinking about for a while.. but unable to find anybody who can confirm exactly. But we bond water and gas to the MET as incoming services. However there has been no mention about whether Virgin Media drop cables should...

    Surge Protection Devices

lol, I can pretty much confirm they dont work. Despite my post asking about the usefullness of Surge Protection devices and using one myself. That £4k Server was plugged into a Belkin Surge Protector at the time of the exploding substation... but it could be like you said lightening...

    Surge Protection Devices

If I am correct.. twice, lol but once I cant be sure as it was just an assumption. First time, was a local transformer substation exploded.. which killed a £4k computer server motherboard. 2nd time, to me anyway it seemed a bit iffy that somebody I know of had their virgin media box...

    Surge Protection Devices

http://www.cibse.org/content/hcsw/New%20Wiring%20regs%20JB%20(2).pdf Came a cross that flow chart and it suggests in most cases they aren't required.. But doesn't take into account value of electronic goods. So you wouldn't bother wih one? £200 Does seem like a lot for what it is

    Wago connectors for ring main

Sorry, lol Right, Wagos.. Great product, meets the maintenance free requirements... Available in cage clamp or push type fitting. They also do a different style of wago advertised for lighting applications, which looks nothing like the cage clamp ones or push type, white in colour...

    Wago connectors for ring main

Lol, yes you have a point. But never know who's gonna open it in future.. Seen online some people messing with electrics who claim they can't even wire a plug How do you label them? Write on sticky labels, felt pen, or label printer?

    Surge Protection Devices

Hi, just wondered if anybody is using them and opinions... I have used MK consumer units before because I felt MK was a good brand, but I've started coming to the realisation they aren't that great.. So was gonna try a Hager one, when I was looking at them... I came across the fact they do...

    Wago connectors for ring main

Yep you have a valid point and its something I will start doing methinks. Under a floor in a house I've located about half a dozen round brown junction boxes from a previous DIY rewire.. It's a mess, switched off shower circuit, and it took out half the upstairs sockets with it and in 1 room...

    Wago connectors for ring main

True, lol there are no exposed wires. To me it's still good practice though. But you have given me a good idea now :) I might start doing that as well as it makes real sense. I already label the sockets which have a dedicated circuit for fridge and freezer.

    Wago connectors for ring main

I don't, I've stuck them on consumer unit, isolators, on main earth connection next to service head I stick electrical safety connection sticker. I know what you mean about appliances and sockets, switches etc. can't stick to them because it would ruin the look and also no room really. But...

    Wago connectors for ring main

lol yes, i know its not a requirement.. but it does contain live terminals inside and mains voltage. maybe a waste of time and expense, but im rather safety cautious and have been known to go over the top and beyond basic requirements. on subject of stickers.. saw something suspcious a few...

    Wago connectors for ring main

I find these better for lighting circuits, http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/ASJ804.html it has the MF logo, and being a 4 terminal has the blocks for the loop in, loop out.. offers strain relief and is sealed. then I normally just stick a 240v sticker on it, or isolate before...

    Wago connectors for ring main

not even the wagos with the snap clamp? also, to original poster, if you use these, they make a proper box to put the wagos in which offers some strain relief, and protection for the joint. wouldnt put them under a floor loose and unprotected.

PCB Disaster on Potterton Suprima 40L

no water leaking inside the boiler? once spoke to somebody who had their PCB replaced on a different boiler.. but the plumber never fixed the leak coming from the pipework above the pcb inside... what happened was after a while the leaking water got at the pcb and killed a perfectly working...

Using adaptable box to terminate SWA

lol, yep it is a rather black picture. I dont disagree with what you are saying though, as you have valid points.. ive had some crack myself. But also had lots which dont when care has been taken. So both have advantages and disadvantages. Plastic - Safer.. but cracks Metal -...
