Mains water system flush via pump valves?

Thanks for your reply. Having read more posts and the faq on here, mains flushing seems to be contentious rather than clear-cut pointless as you seem to be saying. Apparently mains pressure is likely to be higher than many flushing machines manage so I think I'll persevere as all I want to do is...

Mains water system flush via pump valves?

I've had Sentinel X400 circulating for some time and want to flush it out. Mains pressure is pretty good here, so I can't see why it wouldn't be more beneficial than gravity draining through a radiator's drain-off valve. True, I'm no student of water movement but some pressure flow going in one...

Mains water system flush via pump valves?

Hello, What's the best way to connect garden hose to a standard 1.5" BSP pump valve? There are expensive flush adaptors to replace the pump body (e.g. Fernox Powerflow Pump Head Adapter) but I just want to whip the whole pump off and use the valves. Seems simple in theory, but what combination...

Fit whole house system pump e.g. Salamander RHP 75?

Hello, I am planning to fit a whole-house pump to boost hot and cold (standard, open vented system). My house has an extension which includes an en-suite. There are two 22mm cold feeds from the loft tank, one for the main house and one for the extension. How should I connect the pump to both...

Heating fine, hot water cutting out

Hello again. Found the valves. Turns out I've got two zone valves (Honeywell 9021) instead of a single three-port. Number 1 (see images) seems to work ok and turns on/off with the central heating controller. Number 2 doesn't seem to do anything. I've switched 2 to 'manual open'. This doesn't...

By the way, the reason I can't just check the valve is 'cos I don't know where it is!! Must be under floorboards somewhere. The boiler was moved to the ground floor of a two storey extension years before we moved in. The 22mm flow from boiler splits in two at a t-piece just above the boiler. One...

Heating fine, hot water cutting out

Thanks Tony. I figured the boiler moves the port valve based on the request from the timer? If the valve is stuck on CH when the boiler tries to switch it to HW then will the boiler just not do anything? Or am I mixed up?

Is it likely to be the boiler motherboard/pcb? CH fires up great, no problem, but HW doesn't do a thing, no noise or clicking or anything from the boiler. I can get a recon pcb for £40ish so not bad, if that's likely to be the problem? Thanks!

So I'm waiting for the X400 to work its magic but now the HW is not firing at all. CH works fine. When I try to fire up HW either on timer or selecting Constant (British Gas UP1 timer) there is a relay click inside the timer but nothing at all else happens. No response from the boiler at all...

Heating fine, hot water cutting out

Well, I to fitted a drain point to downstairs rad (used a Drain Easy kit and builder's rubble bag, both great tips I read on here). Only took four hours  That was Saturday and the heating was bled and working again so no grief from the family. My first bit of central heating plumbing, so...

That's great, thanks Tony. I'll let you know how it goes!

Heating fine, hot water cutting out

Pretty sure I've found the problem (should check the simple things first!) The Hot water cylinder heating circuit inlet gets hot but the outlet takes 2 hours to warm up (along with the water in cylinder) so I suppose there is a restriction in the cylinder coil. Any clever ways to clear cylinder...

Heating fine, hot water cutting out

Thanks Tony, that does make more sense  Boiler did cut out again, set at 5, as expected. This is where I wish I had any drain points, but sadly not. Guess I can just let water out of a rad bleed valve. Or is that too slow a flow to prove anything?

Heating fine, hot water cutting out

Um, Do you mean drain from a rad drain point or just scoop out of the header tank? Just did the latter and the header tank refilled ok but realised I'm trying to prove that the water is leaving the header tank (into the system) right? There was a bleed valve on the cylinder inlet. No...

Heating fine, hot water cutting out

Thanks for that. The header tank is full but a bit murky. The feed pipe doesn't look obviously blocked but could be restricted. Does the hot water require a much stronger flow than heating? I see in the faq I can rig up a reverse flow to try to blast muck back into the header tank so I could...

Heating fine, hot water cutting out

Probably should mention I have a water cylinder thermostat fitted which is currently set on low temp as there seems to be an issue with the water overheating at the boiler end. Don't know if that's relevant.
