    Invoice for LABC Electrical Inspection

Well I said I'd post the BCO 'apology' for all to see. I reckon they do bill everyone as Securespark suggested. I agree BAD LA, Very BAD LA. Steve.

Shower not bonded what would you do?

Is it not possible/allowable to bond inside the plastic case of the electric shower? I mean bond the cold water copper pipe to the shower cable earth conductor. The bond clamp and bond wire will then be hidden.

    Invoice for LABC Electrical Inspection

I called Building Control today and informed them of their 'mistake'. They told me that it was a computer error and they would cancel the invoice. I pointed out the fact that computers do not in general make errors and in fact it was user error (lack of understanding or disregard of Part P). I...

    Invoice for LABC Electrical Inspection

Sorry Chris I should have explained I am a DIYer. The work involved a new ring main into the kitchen and also radial circuit for the electric oven. I paid the notification fee of about £90, notified that I was starting work and then did the work. BCO inspected at 1st fix and inspected and tested...

    Invoice for LABC Electrical Inspection

Hi All, Just received this today totally out of the blue. It seems to be in direct contravention to part P of the building regs paragraph 1.26 quoted directly below, “The building control body may choose to carry out the inspection and testing itself, or to contract out some or all of the...

I have my own pictures of the week!

Surely bonding is not required across those soldered joints? Steve.

    Building Notice, Completion of Work?

Thanks for the reply. So do you think it is normal that the LABC are not issuing a formal completion certificate? Do you think this is a 'final certificate'? Steve.

    Building Notice, Completion of Work?

Hi All, Just received this through the post from the LABC. I was expecting a 'Completion Certificate' as mentioned in Part P of the building regulations. What I received was a 'Building Notice Completion if Work' letter. The LABC seem to think that they don't have to issue a completion...

    Electrics and Drilling

I have the cheap tester from Argos and would not recommend it. It's unreliable and the battery only lasts a very short time. In fact I don't use it anymore as I've got to know where most wires are. Steve.

Help needed ref BCO and notifiable jobs

After doing lots of reading, studying websites and many posts on here I considered myself competent enough to do the job. 'Electricians guide to the building regulations' is a good book and also 'Electricians guide to BS7671' also. Actually I'm a degree qualified electronics engineer so I...

Help needed ref BCO and notifiable jobs

It is the BCO's responsibility to make sure that the installation is safe. I just installed Kitchen ring main and cooker cable following the BCO route. The BCO looked at first fix to make sure all wires were in corect zones etc. and the came back after 2nd fix to test. Test results were filled...

    New Extractor Fan Installation

Similar situation to me. Definitely don't vent into the loft. You can get a slate vent that goes in place of an existing roof slate. You then mount an inline extractor in the loft and connect it up with flexible ducting. Steve.

Most unusal thing found in a wall

Found this massive back box buried in the kitchen wall under the plaster. Should see the crater left behind! What's the strangest thing that you've found in a wall? Steve.

    Stripping meter tails

Upgrading tails between DP isolator and CU. Want to use 25mm tails to match the rest of the setup (existing tails are 16mm). What is the correct method for stripping the cable? Should some of the brown/blue inner insulation be made visible atthe CU end, isolator end or both ends? Thanks in...

    Main equipotential bonding

Sorry Festa but I did not measure the cable resistance. I have BCO 1st fix inspection on Friday morning. I installed a 10mm squared MEB cable. Worryingly I find that the length is very close to the limit. My guestimate from trying to measure the cable route is 24 metres. Maybe I shouldn't worry...

    Main equipotential bonding

Quote from the Wiki "Main equipotential bonding conductors should be as short as possible and their resistance from bonded part to the MET should not exceed 0.05 ohms " My MEB conductor is as short as possible but is about 20 - 25 metres long. Worried that the resistance is too high. Just...

    Main equipotential bonding

Just read the Wiki that says the max resistance of main equipotential bonding should be 0.05 ohms. I've used 10 mm squared for this. What length will give 0.05 ohms. Sorry but don't have the table to work it out. Steve.
