Surely it is still better to be earthed in some way rather than not earthed at all. A total rewire may not be feasible. Experts please comment on this. Steve.

Call your electricity supplier and tell them that you want an isolator fitted between the meter and your consumer unit. Then there should be no need for you to remove the main fuse. I did that (phoned EDF energy) and they are coming to fit the isolator in 3 weeks time..at no charge ! Steve.

Good point Chri5. I should be able to clip it on the underside of the joists. I can't see that being a problem regarding safety...Other opinions on this approach are appreciated.
