    Installing a gas hob

With gas, if you have even the slightest doubt, I'd call a professional. The fact you don't know what connector to use shows potential gaps in knowledge. I say call a CORGI registered plumber. If you'd read all of the correct literature relating to how to install gas equipment, then you'd...

    Olympic opening ceremony

Ah, the olympics. I'm not a fan of them, though I do like the way they promote international harmony with a friendly sense of competition.

    Terminating a spur

And don't call in the village handyman for DIY. Honestly, village handymen are probably a godsend to electricians who earn money by doing work.

    LV Transformer advice please

There is a slight frequency issue. What are the specs for your doorbell and what type of doorbell is it? If it is a standard 'bell' type doorbell it may have some problems.

    home electrics changing consumer unit

I think whoever designed meters is a twonk. Would it be too hard to have tails that could be removed, and everywhere else sealed, so that one doesn't have to breach any seals. That way it could be arranged so electricity cannot be stolen, and one can disconnect the supply (they could hold the...

    Mobiles in hospitals

More people seem to have bricks over there too... In fact, a lot of people had brick phones until very recently. Obviously it's not the same fashion statement it is in Europe... I was always told that the hysteria and resulting regulations about 'phones not being used on forcourts was...

See why colour harmonization might be good after all? At least we won't be telling Italians to connect live to earth in the future!

Yes, but you can't copyright a turing machine, or any other physical device other than a distinctive 3D image, or a distinctive smell (i.e. the smell of lynx is copyright, as is the smell of gas)... T+E and 13A plug

Ah... good ole pub installations. Dodgy countersunk metallic 15 A sockets, which look like they have taken a good beating... Ancient MCBs, not to mention that Armoured cable that somehow has been connected to a regular junction box

    Manufacturers' claims - patently untrue

Not only are VOCs bad for the environment, but remember a few years a back the problem with sheep dip being responsible for the early onset of Alzheimers, and memory loss and othere neurological diseases? Well, Sheep Dip is a VOC, and that was what was causing it. The stuff in paint is almost...

    chipping ps2 now illegal

Unusual. I take it back in the old days that Amstrad were quite strict then. Nowadays there one of the few companies that allows their ROMs to be freely used for emulation purposes, and don't tend to bother with their copyright legacy. As for the EUCD, I am totally against it, it is utter...

    Circuit Breaker noises

Yeah, I'd say the sockets may be at fault, so I'd reccomend replacing them, and if it still doesn't work, replace the breakers at the distribution board.

    Electric shock off aerial coax

The reccomendation I heard is not to touch the connection actually DURING a thunderstorm, because you risk yourself being blown apart when you touch the connector. A long shot, I know, but unplugging before a storm is near is reccomended.

    Removing supply fuse?

That's stupid. They don't want us to do it, so they make it unsafe. Making those people stop posting such things by alternative means perhaps`
