    cinderblocks

I wouldn't reccomend such a system unless your equipment's position is usually temporary. I am myself a learning DJ, and if you have noticed, mixers, vocoders, DSPs etc, are often designed to be screwed into proper mixing desks, or rackmounted, I suggest you build some rackmounting, etc, and...

    Electric shock off aerial coax

We have an amplifier, that connects the Skydigital box, the SVHS machine and the aerial to a TV upstairs, recently I was changing the VCR up their and I got a small shock off the coax. My thought is that it is somehow causing an induction from nearby mains cables, or somehow carrying a...

    Circuit Breaker noises

Routine political investigation for Americans: If you are a republican: Stop your warmongering, polluting etc, and no I'm not helping. If you're a democrat, green, socialist or communist: Okay, so here are some suggestions and questions: First of all, it would appear that whatever you...

    electrical

What do you mean by 'Extension supply'? I usually reccomend that you create the shed its own circuit.

No earth connection - am I missing something ??

Check on here as to what earth connection you have... Note that the system may be old and you could have no RCD on the TT system, this would need rectifying. Is there an Earth rod anywhere? First, if it has not been done already, have an electrician to a Periodic Inspection Report. This...

    Virus Trojan horse

Difficult one, had similar problem. I usually find it a good idea to move the file to the virus vault, and switch off the computer without shutting down straight afterwards, as the virus will simply copy itself again otherwise while it is still in memory. I have had a virus in the backdoor...

Teletop Aerial... how to do the base thing...

This picture shows the metal cylinder in place, and the clips near it. The cable is meant to go around the clips in some way I assume, and is it meant to wrap around the cylinder? I will take another of the aerial itself's guts if you want, but those are intact, and I have no wish to ruin...

wiring a German cooker into a UK home

Hmm... Some ovens do have neutral even if purely three phase, you have to remember that they often have lamps in them, which are about always 230v, and some also have a socket on the front in Germany, I have noticed.

wiring a German cooker into a UK home

It is not possible to join the three lives together, as tehre would be no potential difference, between the terminals and the oven likely requires phase-phase to work. You could see about having a three phase supply installed, it is available in most areas but is most likely going to be...

    Retuning VCR for Channel 5

Put your postcode into the following site to find out the frequency for Five in your area. http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tva.exe? Note the bearings for the different transmitters, and see whether your aerial for your main TV is pointing to a Five transmitter, it might be a case of your...

Teletop Aerial... how to do the base thing...

Probably a long shot asking here, but I thought some of you may know more about the properties of UHF, how aerials work etc.... I have one of those Teletop aerials, it was actually quite amazing when I first got it, brilliant picture, however, the problem with them is, if one tugs on the...

Wire colours - Black & Yellow - which is live??

Just a thought... Yellow couldn't have been a way of indicating on what part of a three phase install that circuit is, could it? Unlikely, I know, but just a thought. Sounds dodgy either way.

    Separatist movements

There are the English Democrats, which while not entirely separist want England to have independence from the UK! They were formally the English National Party, but changed their name to distance themselves from the BNP. Plus there is the SNP and Plaid Cymru have strong separatist elements...

    Dimmer switch selection

That's not strictly true. The problem of halogens not lasting long when dimmed has been worked on somewhat, and although not as impressive increase as that with incandescent, it will last longer, see Osram's website.

    Strange socket...

And it is for this reason you can manually lock most 'phones to a network, and it will try the cell you are locked to first.

    Strange socket...

Maybe... Not all phones unlock on emergency numbers, and it may not have been programmed to receive the listing of emergency numbers, just to unlock on 112, but most 'phones nowadays receive a listing of emergency numbers to unlock on.

    Halogen heaven

I believe you can install a 5 amp socket on a 10 amp circuit, but not a 2 amp socket. Originallly one could install a 5 amp socket on a 15 amp circuit, I do not know if that is still the case, it sounds a bit dodgy to me.

    Strange socket...

I believe it's broadcast depending what country you're in what the emergency numbers are. You can also call emergency numbers without a SIM card, so even if you don't have a signal on the network you subscribe to, you should try dialling anyway, as you can get emergency through another network...
