Advice Please On Problems with Screed for UFH!

There's nothing wrong with the architects specification. It's the workmanship that's at fault hence it's down to the builder to meet his contractual liabilites and lay a screed that is fit for purpose at his own cost.

Noisy Grundfoss 15-60 Central Heating Pump

He used a new pump and took it apart. One of the nuts on the valve was seized solid an no amount of force with large spanners would shift it. So it would have been necessary to drain the system and cut the pipe otherwise. Even if the valves let a little water by when closed it only takes...

    Floor Bracing?

I have seen ones that don't go over the top of the joist but are face fixed in a similar way to the way that timber batterns would be fixed. Not sure how they would work on irregular joist spacings though. Pieces of joist will stop joists deflecting but the weak point would be IF you can't...

    SOLID WOOD AND BITUMEN

I had a little trouble with the Ruberoid link, but corrected it and a direct cut and past from their web page My Uncle was using it until about 4 years ago when he retired.

    Floor Bracing?

It doesn't matter too much but nails have a higher shear load but can be difficult to drive in between joists the same for screws though. You need a big hammer to drive a 6" nail. You need to fix at the top and bottom of straight timber bracing timbers otherwise they won't work as bracing. They...

Advice Please On Problems with Screed for UFH!

It's difficult to say if the screed needs to come up without seeing it, but it takes a few days for screed to reach it's full strength. When it's laid the screed should be covered with polythene or similar to slow down the drying time and allow it to cure properly. The sand should be sharp sand...

    SOLID WOOD AND BITUMEN

I used to do floor laying for my uncle in the holidays and overnight/weekends when I was at college and we used to stick solid wood blocks down with bitumen. Synthaproof I think was best as if the floor was ever flooded the blocks stayed firmly stuck.

    Solid Wood Over Underfloor Heating.

Basically yes, but the drw was incorrect so the install had to be different, but only in respect of the joists being the wrong way round. The fitter annotated the dwg and took it back so that I could have a corrected copy. I think the output was 70 watts per m2 if I remember correctly. As...

    Floorboard support on edges

Your first thought should be supporting the partition wall. Chipboard cut off like that isn't going to do it. You really need to take the floor under the wall to several joists along or fit joists to support it. You can add joists to support the boards at the same time.

    Solid Wood Over Underfloor Heating.

Professional install for the UHF. The fitters are coming this morning. Spec is spreader plates over 100mm Rockwool between joists on nettting. (I've already installed that in conjunction with improved subfloor ventilation. As a matter of interest the subfloor is 150 mm of tarmac. I have a...
