    Balancing rads

Yes Don't think it matters because once the head is off, the valve is on the open position. But why would you want to take the head off?

Taken for a ride? Boiler swap

I can't comment on the quotes but no one will do it for that price. How much is the boiler? £700 (roughly) ? Its got to be hung, flue connected and piped up which you accounted for but its got to be commissioned and to do it properly takes time and time = money.

    Blocked kitchen waste

Does pipework have a fall on it? That L bend you mention is it glued or a pushfit? If its glued then it won't come off. Better still can you take a picture of it?

How to only switch off the central heating supply

There will be two valves underneath the boiler to shut off the radiator circulation. The water will still be in the system which will need to be drained if you need to alter any pipework. For what its worth, the heating system is only filled up once and the supply is then shut off via the...

Gate Valves for High Pressure applications

Thanks for the replies. So the general opinion is that it shouldn't be used but it won' cause any real problems (other than the spindle snapping off ). I won't be replacing them because the bosses have decided to use them and I can't do nothing about that. What pipework arrangment...

Gate Valves for High Pressure applications

Is there a gate valve available on the market for use on high pressure/unvented systems? Reason I ask is I'm on site of 20+ flats that have unvented systems installed with gate valves as a means to isolate the how water supply from the cylinder and cold water just before it enters the cylinder...

    leak in central heating

Not necessarily. Do you see water anywhere? It could be down to the expansion vessel or the pressure relief valve. Do you have an expansion vessel on the pipework? If you do, then there will be a valve like on a car tyre. Press that and see if any water comes out. If there is water present...

It would be worth doing and you will notice the difference.

Connecting 40mm waste to 110mm soil stack

Can't you drop the 40mm pipe lower? You can't use them outside. They could freeze in cold weather while closed. And use glue!

    New bath draining slowly.

How long is the run? It could do with a bit more fall and as said fit an anti vac trap too.

    Advice needed: Megaflow boiler?

He is right (about combi not being enough and megaflo being a better option). A large house with 2 bathrooms would be much better off with a unvented cylinder. It would cost more than a grand though. There are a few things to take into account such as incoming pressure and flow rate. You...

    Convert Open vented for Combi

Didn't understand what you meant here. If you replace the main flow and return pipes with 22mm and tee off in 15mm you'll be fine.

    Convert Open vented for Combi

Yes What size are these rads? If they're small then you might be ok but ideally you would want 15mm pipe to supply around 2 maybe 3 medium sized rads. Will you be powerflushing the pipework?

    Convert Open vented for Combi

Something like that. Most boilers have the feeds coming out from the bottom. From there you can branch off to feed the other radiators. Will you be replacing any pipework? Who is doing the boiler?

    Shower Pump

Could you fit check valve after the pump although this won't help the OP in this case and will restrict the flow to the shower? I've answered my own question so how can I delete this useless post?
