Correct way to use sealant around windows

On reflection of my earlier post i have to admit that i made a schoolboy error  Mastic probably wasn't the best advice to offer, however as i was thinking along the lines of fitting timber windows as opposed to upvc.I can count on 1 finger how many plastic windows ive fitted and the timber...

    Sash Clamps

Personally i would steer WELL clear of nu tool or any cheap brand for that matter. If you're going to buy these cheap products then dont expect them to last!! IMHO if you are going to buy something then pay a little more for a quality product. Some people may have experiences of buying cheap...

Correct way to use sealant around windows

If you find sealing around a bath 'EASY' then im sure you will find no problem sealing arond your windows.its like any job you do,if you're used to sealing then a window will be a piece of p**s.I have my method of doing it and someone else will have their way of doing it.From a personal point of...

    door lining

No problems as such.......6 double fixings is probably overkill,i always go with 4 double fixings.I never feel the need to fix the head of the frame.A couple of mm is not going to make much difference(if any).........as stated in earlier replies,if you're getting someone in to hang the...

Screws/nails to use in damp area?

Prevention is better than cure!! If you use treated timber & galvanised screws then these wont rot or rust..........but that doesnt escape the fact that they are being used in a damp area.Address the problem of the source of dampness. As breezer states, fit some form of ventilation.

    door lining

Why does it have to be exactly 143mm? 141/145 'seems as close as' to me  edit: ive just read your post in window/doors an understand a little clearer. Can you not just buy some 6x1pse(150mmx25mm dressed timber) and make a lining this way. This timber should be about 145ishmm

    Leaking Rainwater Pipe Joints

When fitting rainwater goods such as downpipes it is good practice to use a solvent cement to all joints, this bonds & seals the two pieces together and should prevent leaking joints. EDIT: all downpipe fittings such as bends and sockets have a specific way in which they should be fitted.There...

Dodgy Roofing Job/Cowboy - Advice Needed!

Ask him why he didnt use the right sized slates....Im not a roofer but from the price quoted and the work done i would say that that is a fair price had it been done correctly  I agree that it looks a mess but if it keeps the elements out then looks arent everything.Regardless of how...

    help re. doors pls!!

78 inches is a standard size indeed.....depending on what construction the door is i.e solid or hollow core(egg box) will depend on how easy the door can be cut to size. If it is a solid door then you can cut 2 inches from the bottom of the door(i wouldnt recommend using a file...you'll be on...

    Verge Tiles on Hipped roof

I have to agree with Noseall on this one........a cherrypicker isnt always the easiest option.Having worked from a few in my time i would rather work from a scaffold as i tend to find that you are restricted in the basket from things like lack of space and the harness getting in the way to name...

    untreated timber outside -simple question

Depending on what finish/appearance you are wanting. There is no reason why you cant use dressed(pse) timber and treat it with a suitable preservative.Or you can use pretreated roughsawn timber if you want a 'rustic' finish. Whichever timber you decide to use outdoors should be treated for...
