    Rotten Doorstep Repair

The question is, could I cut out the threshold/step, and replace it with a new one, preferably and oak one to match a new oak door, and could I just strip the paint off of the base of the frame, and apply some of the "Ronseal high performance wood filler" to the area that is soft, and then...

    What's the best 'grab' adhesive?

    Stair Nosing

Personally i would screw the nosings on using 2 1/2 inch no8 or 10 screws with a bead of adhesive.Assuming your stairs are something like 36" wide i would fix 3 screws in each nosing,1 1/4 in from each end and then one in the centre of nosing.Make sure you pre-drill and countersink to receive...

How to put floor boards back down.

Its sounds to me as if the tongue has broken off of your t&g,this is quite normal when removing flooring for pipes and cables etc. However it is normal practice to run a circular saw along the length of the flooring to cut the tongue to allow for easier removal of the board.Making sure that the...

    What's the best 'grab' adhesive?

This depends on what you are trying to stick down....E.G if you are fixing skirting board to a straight wall with no humps or bumps in it then this should give a good solid hold. Apply the adhesive to the back of skirting in a zigzag pattern with a bead approx 6mm leaving a gap of about 10-12mm...

    Replacing Front Door Threshold Seal

Looking at your photo it seems that the metal strip has been fitted to hide/cover the step and wouldnt provide a good weather seal to the door(i might be wrong). If you do a google search for 'STORMGUARD' then this will show you what i usually fit on timber doors that i hang. NOTE TO MODS...

Fitting Carpet Underlay - Which Stapler?

Whilst im not an expert with carpet underlay, i used the hammer tacker type stapler (which is sold at screwfix £16.99) to fix my underlay. It lists it as being suitable for the job. My stapler(which i use for roofing felt) is a heavier type which cost me IIRC £50.Looking at the one mentioned in...

    Window Sill

Can you clarify that this is an 'internal' window board and not an 'external window CILL' as the two often get confused  If it is the internal window board you are after then id be inclined to buy a length of lets say 8 x 1 pse(planed square edge) timber from a timber yard and put the...

    Door linings - installation

In a house of that age you probably wouldnt find the door opening 100% plumb or square.I think it might be easier to fit a door lining & fit the stop lath afterwards, but i wouldnt expect fitting a casing to be much different with the method i use. My prefered method would be to position...

    Paslode won't fire

Hi eastcoast, Can i ask why you didn't return it back to tools.net if it was a brand new gun? Did it not come with a warrantee? The trouble with relying on a rep to take it away for you is that they dont usually visit on a regular basis.I personally would have sent it back to where id...
