More than one appliance on an FCU ?

Thank you both for your replies. Judging from them, I assume that my original proposal wasn't daft. Using the grid plate is an option though I would still prefer nothing bigger than a two gang plate above my worktop and the 6-module plate is a bit big for my liking. I am therefore...

More than one appliance on an FCU ?

Can you have more than one appliance connected to the same FCU ? I have an electric oven, gas hob (electric ignition) and a cooker hood and would rather not have three separate FCUs above my worktop. I was thinking about having the hob and cooker hood connected to one with the oven connected...

Looping in at a Light Switch ?

Excellent. Thanks again. Just out of interest, when used in this way, is 3C+E comparable to 1mm T+E or to 1.5mm T+E in terms of its rating ?

Looping in at a Light Switch ?

Thanks BAS. I prefer the choc-block solution. As a supplementary question, is it acceptable to use 3C+E cable as a substitute for T+E by just ignoring one of the wires or is it frowned upon ? I'm using old colours and may not have enough T+E to go the distance.

Looping in at a Light Switch ?

I want to connect an outside light for my patio. I have a nearby interior light from which I can take the power. Obviously, one solution would be to take the power from the interior light to a junction box and from there have two cables running to the exterior light and light switch...

Downstairs Sockets - RCD or not ?

Ban, As Adam mentions, it is mainly the freezer (and perhaps boiler ?) that I do not want RCD protected. I was planning to have these on the kitchen ring main but the location of the sockets is close to an external door and so could reasonably be expected to power an outdoor appliance. I...

Downstairs Sockets - RCD or not ?

Thanks again. Looks like I need to put a bit more thought into my layout.

Downstairs Sockets - RCD or not ?

Thanks Adam. I've seen individual face plates with built-in RCDs. Can these be used on particular sockets to satisfy regulations ?

Downstairs Sockets - RCD or not ?

I recollect reading something in the forum regarding all downstairs sockets being RCD protected. I understand the logic as to why this is an issue but is it a regulation or a recommendation ?

Expanding Foam - Please Help !!

Found some Foam Eater (not cheap - £12 for 250ml !!) but it did work and didn't damage the glass. I made sure that I masked around the window frame to protect the rubber etc.. so no damage done there. Of course, if I'd taken the trouble mask the glass in the first place, I wouldn't have needed...

Expanding Foam - Please Help !!

Thanks Skattie. The foam has fully cured and scraping it off with a blade is certainly an option, though not one I'm looking forward to. Searching the web, I came across a product called 'Foam Eater' which claims to remove cured foam from various surfaces but doesn't explicitly mention...

Expanding Foam - Please Help !!

Managed to smear expanding foam all over new windows whilst attempting to fill a gap around the edge. Does anyone know of a way to remove this stuff from glass other than spending hours (or even days, weeks !!) removing it mechanically ?

    Recessed Downlights

Yes, thanks for this but I knew it already. I'm simply trying to gather some background info before making a decision. Can anyone answer my original questions ?

    Recessed Downlights

I'm planning to install recessed downlights in my kitchen. Are there any rules of thumb about the wattage / no. of lights required for a given room size ? Also, how do 12V ELV lights compare with mains lights in this respect ? The room is about 10ft x 10ft with a 9ft high ceiling. Any...

    Softwood floorbaords in kitchen

Hi Ziggadebo, I spotted your post after doing a search. If you're still out there a year on, I'd interested in how you got on as I am considering doing something similar. What sub-floor did you put your boards onto ? And what did you finish them with ? MOD see item 17

Solid Wood on a Concrete Floor

Here's another question that's probably been asked many times before in many different ways. I intend to replace an existing suspended floor in my kichen with a concrete floor: hardcore base (at least 100mm), insulation, DPM then concrete slab (about 100mm). I then want to put floorboards...

    New Concrete Floor

This type of question has probably been asked many times but here goes: I plan to put down a concrete floor in a 5m2 area at the rear of my house. I have dug out down to the subsoil about 230/240 mm below the finished floor level. Does the following proposal sound OK from the soil up ...

Fixing & finishing new T&G boards

I am about to start laying new floorboards in two rooms (one of them a bathroom) and intend to varnish them so that the floors become an attractive feature of the house. I want to get it right and so need to make some decisions about fixing and finishing. The boards are T&G redwood with a...

    Bathroom Extractor Fan - Wiring

I started again as you suggested and discovered that the loop neutral and switch live cables for the light were round the wrong way - the switch live that I thought I was picking up was the neutral from the mains and vice versa. Anyway, now everything is in its correct place and the fan is...
