Can anyone recommend a weed control membrane?

I've measured up and I'm off to the builders merchants for some Plantex for the garden. Got the Plantex now, looks pretty thick compared to what I've seen elsewhere, should last a long while. To hold it to the ground is it best to use the metal staples that push into the ground? And to cut it...

    Re-flashing price

Hi Dave, I know that the FMB isn't a roofer's organisation but all that this company do are tiling and slating. I've had a look at some of the work they've done and I think they'll do more than a good job looking at their previous work. Whilst they may be FMB registered, all they do is roofing...

Can anyone recommend a weed control membrane?

I take it that by TP you mean Travis Perkins? I've got them and Keyline - which seem to be the same comapny - both selling Plantex but another, smaller builder's merchant has TDP50 and it's only £28 for a 2x25m roll. As this so much cheaper that's why I'm wondering if it's as good as Plantex. So...

    Re-flashing price

Thanks again Alistair. I see your point and probably a lack of maintenance has came into it. I'm one of a terrace of four ex-council houses and speaking to both my neighbours (one house empty), who've been here much longer than I have and they've all had similar problems with their chimneys so...

Can anyone recommend a weed control membrane?

I'd seen Plantex in my builder's merchants, I take it that it's worth the extra cash? It's about £50 for a 2x25m roll. I've also seen TDP50 which is cheaper, what's the difference?

    Re-flashing price

Thanks Alistair. Would it be worth getting the flashing done anyway as a preventative measure to stop the water coming in if the moss builds up again? They said that if the water was blocked from running off that it could currently come into the house.

    Re-flashing price

Sorry Alistair, what's a chocked skew? I've taken your advice and got a second opinion coming on wednesday to have a look and see what they'd do to stop water coming in again. Saying that, the water ingress has stopped and we've had some pretty heavy rain last week. Thanks again for your...

Can anyone recommend a weed control membrane?

Hi, I'm currently lifting the gravel in my garden to put down a weed control membrane as the previous owner forgot to and I hate weeding! I've had a look around my local builders merchants and diy stores and have seen various ones but can anyone recommend a particular fabric? It's goign...

    Kitchen Extractor Fan Problem

I've had a look at the pull cord switch on the wall and it's a Vent Axia Variatronic HP2 (which has a build in Humidistat). According to what I've found on the net the HP2 will automatically control the fan but also has a manual over-ride - the pull cord - to get full speed when required...

    Kitchen Extractor Fan Problem

From what I've described, can anyone point me in which direction the fault is likely to be - with the wiring and switching or with the extractor fan itself? Thank you in advance.

    Kitchen Extractor Fan Problem

If it's any use the extractor fan is a Vent Axia VA150A. Out of interest, as I've already got an extractor fan and associated wiring fitted, how difficult is it to replace my current fan with a new one?

    Re-flashing price

Hi, the temporary repair was removing moss from the flashing that was about the size of a loaf of bread. What they said was the moss was blocking the water from running down the roof and, as the flashing hadn't been done properly against the tiles, the water was pooling and eventually going...

    Kitchen Extractor Fan Problem

thanks again, how would I find out if the extractor fan had a humidistat? It's been in since bought the house and, from looking at it, would say that it's reasonably old. Ex-council property so I imagine they will have put in a fairly basic fan. If it had a humidistat would I be right in...

    Kitchen Extractor Fan Problem

Thanks for your reply, the cooker hood works fine. I shouldn't have said that the extractor fan turns itself on as it doesn't. What it does do is when the fused wall switch is 'on' and the pull cord switch is 'off' the fan sometimes comes on of its own accord. But only when the fused switch is...

    Kitchen Extractor Fan Problem

Hi, I'm after some advice on what could possibly be wrong with the extractor fan in my kitchen. It's a Vent Axia which looks quite old (can't see any model number on it) and it turns itself on and off at random. Sometimes it doesn't even turn on and if it does come on sometimes it's nice and...

    Re-flashing price

The quote only mentions dressing the flashing as they said that the flashing itself wasn't the problem but the way that it was, or wasn't, attached to the tiles was causing the leak. Bearing this in mind, how's the price?

    Re-flashing price

Good morning! I've had a bit of a roof leak which, I'm told, to repair requires re-flashing around my chimney. It's got a temporary repair on at the moment whilst I get quotes in but I don't know how much I should expect to pay. So far I've got one quote from a well-regarded local company...

    Roof de-mossing

Hi, I've just had a leak repaired in my flashing and the roofer said that it would be worth getting my roof de-mossed as there is a lot of moss up there. He doesn't do it so it's not like he's touting for extra work but is it worth having it done? If left is the moss likely to damage anything or...

    MCB help needed urgently please!

Good afternoon! Finally the problem is fixed and I'd like to say thank you to everyone who posted advice and thoughts. Thank you. I tried putting the old socket back on, there was still no power. When my electrician friend came he suggested we try the upstairs MCB (known to be working) in...

    MCB help needed urgently please!

I'll go and try it with the socket removed from the wall in case there is pinching and I could try swapping the upstairs MCB for the downstairs one but I don't feel happy opening up the consumer unit - I'm going to leave that to my friend who knows what he's doing. The only load on the circuit...
