Lucky I'm not colour blind - well as you suspected, with those connections, first anti-clock. then the second clockwise. Nice one. and you are right about the extra umph.

If I spin the motor in either direction then apply power it drives in that same direction. From stationary with the application of power it drives in either direction, not always in the opposite direction to the previously wired operation. (No, that doesn't sound sensible)

Interesting exercise that.... no matter which way I wire the red(orange) or black, if I spin the motor prior to applying power, it runs in that direction. So it will spin clockwise or anti-clockwise under the same wiring set up.

Okay, the next instalment...... I changed the wiring on the cap. and on the timer, then the drum only spins partially, but in the opposite direction. I had changed the wiring on the timer to the opposite too.....so that shows it's not the motor, not the cap and therefore could be a relay?

Couldn't now tell as it's not rotating in either direction but the motor spins as normal (with the power off of course); have put the wires back in the original position now, no powered rotation.

Spot on with the wiring, and the white changes to a blue which connects to the timer and the relay. In fact it's the blue connector which you can see in the relay picture.

Ah well, tried a different capacitor but the same result, so when I can I'll try to find a motor to swap and test. Thanks again for the comments.

Yes the drum turns normally, and especially when powered, but then it comes to a halt as if to reverse, but the motor sounds like it's jamming, so I'll change that tomorrow and see how things are after that. thanks again for the suggestions.

Thanks for the warning, I do appreciate it, and yes I'm aware it could be the capacitor, but then, it's only when in one direction.
