    Video: Promax SL issue

I have an on-going issue with our boiler which is presenting as follows: • Tries to fire, burner briefly starts • Burner goes out after 1 second • Cycle continues until the boiler locks out • If you leave it a day to two and reset it, it might fire up again, it was regularly locking but would...

    Worcester Bosch Guarantee

i'm not wedded to WB but as i've been warned off Baxi/Potterton I wondered what ppl would recommend? I know everyone is different so in the same way consensus on Baxi/Potterton seems to be poor, I'm hoping there might be two of three alternatives that will give me what i'm looking for

    Worcester Bosch Guarantee

really? I'm confused then! This is what their site says, which leads me to think they are forcing me to use ppl on their register, probably so they can charge a fee, and offer a benefit/incentive to installers. A simple money making scheme: Greenstar Ri (27kW and 30kW) † Up to a 10 year...

    Worcester Bosch Guarantee

that's a very good point and makes sense. When I mentioned WB to him he laughed and said his hands will end up getting cut to shreds. He said on the plumbing forum he's on ppl post daily pictures of their hands saying "guess what I was working on today":LOL::LOL: I totally get where...

    Worcester Bosch Guarantee

Thanks, it's not necessarily an approved WB installer that i'm lacking or looking for. I've used Baxi approved guys before, and other approved ppl, and to be quite honest they were poor. This guy i've been speaking to recently is pretty open about things so i'm keen to go with him. I'm now...

    Worcester Bosch Guarantee

ah, he's not my friend, just a chap who has worked at friends places and they've spoken highly of him. After meeting him and talking about my job I feel it would be good to use him. i'm not going to be able to tell him to go an do a course unfortunately. If I don't go WB, what other boilers do...

    Worcester Bosch Guarantee

That's a very good question, my current (outgoing) is a Potterton and i've seen lots saying they are/were terrible machines, so i'm naturally lumping Baxi in with that. My brother who is in the same position said he was going for a WB as they review well and his guy recommended them, so I saw no...

    Worcester Bosch Guarantee

it's likely I need a new boiler, I'm leaning towards a WB which a someone I trust (Gas Safe, unvented certified, etc.) can fit. Reading their literature if I fit one of their filters the standard guarantee increases from five to ten years, however... and it's a big HOWEVER their site also...

    Sunken Garden office build

is this fuelled by a warm deck restricting the head clearance? I spoke to my architect (as i'm doing another house extension) and he said the benefit were negligible. I've decided to put my insulation internally between the rafters, making sure to leave a small air gap behind. This means i'll...

Leaking Potterton Promax SL heat exchanger manifold

no insurance contract. Just trying to decide the best way forward. It's 13 years old... good money after bad?

Sealed system, have I got this right?

I did, I had two around to quote, and both have suggested quite different solutions so i'm trying to learn the difference and ultimately end up going with the best person/solution. In the past I've used a heating engineer that looks to have made things easy for themselves which has caused me a...

Sealed system, have I got this right?

this is interesting. I have a cupboard that houses a water softener on the floor, so maybe when I fit a reaplcement Duoflow there will be sufficient space to fit an expansion vessel

    megaflow, twist or stick

well, I don't know if mine is that bad but I used to get those deposits when I drained the tank to recharge the air gap.

    megaflow, twist or stick

totally, I think i've likely suffered a bit of this on some of my taps. I have a crosswater where the hot tap is really difficult to turn and it's a discontinued model so I might be screwed not being able to get a replacement... I was sent a megaflow replacement a year or two ago but didn't...

Sealed system, have I got this right?

if we had to force it in we could, but we're pretty tight on space so if there is an viable alternative we would prefer that route. To me a system boiler makes sense...? I've just looked on screwfix, I can see there are about 265mm x 235mm, so there's an outside possibility it could go above...

Sealed system, have I got this right?

Thanks for the response. I think I understand. I currently have a Promax SL, which i'm assuming is a heat only boiler, however because i'm on an unvented system it's been suggested I could swap to a System boiler to get around the softened water issue. Another solution is to use a heat only...

Sealed system, have I got this right?

I need a new boiler, but it turns out my header tank is fed from the water softener and, as usual, there is no viable way to get a hard water feed up to the loft. However... My main feed comes into the utility room and splits, one side goes to the water softener, and one side goes to the...

    megaflow, twist or stick

ok, that's great to hear, and as I have it all here it makes sense to stick with it. TBF to them they replaced the tank without much of a fuss. Perhaps they deserve a bit more of my loyalty
  19. B

    megaflow, twist or stick

ah, that's interesting, so I could just get the replacement tank installed, then if it goes again I have the option to add an external expansion vessel? This sounds a very pragmatic way of dealing with it.

Leaking Potterton Promax SL heat exchanger manifold

@Elkato531 it's not work messing with the exchanger, but I guess when I look at the leaking manifold it could be something as simple as a £10 gasket. Seems a shame to bin it, if that's the case. I totally get your point about seized bolts... I'm going to have to give this one a little...
