    Oven gas leak

I'm no expert, but I would of thought that any leak is not acceptable on a gas appliance. Best get it checked out by an registered gas fitter

Drinking water from hot water header tank

All cold water feeds (cold taps, cisterns and machines) in our house are fed direct from the cold water main. The only cold water feeds from the storage tank are to the HW cylinder and shower pump. I would of thought that supplying cold drinking water from a storage tank to taps would be a...

    Vented system - air separator

Dave, The original must of been there for decades the 15mm outlet was very furred up to the point little or no water flowed. We moved in to the house in 2001, had a new boiler fitted same year (new piping up to the airing cupboard where the cylinder and pump is). I then fitted a new HW...

Chris, thanks for the drawing. Can you explain the advantage / reason the feed from the F/E tank is fitted that way.

    Vented system - air separator

About a year and a half ago we had an issue with our CH system, which had an air separator as shown in the diagram below (although the vent pipe was straight up to the FE tank) Turned out that the separator was silted up and the point where the 15mm cold feed joined the separator was...

    CH Busted Pump ?

Well its all fixed and we're warm as toast ! Popped in to Screwfix lunchtime and picked up a terrier pump for £35 (OK may not be the best but it's doing the job and quietly too). Only took half an hour to swap out. I think it was simply co-incidence that the pump failed at the same time...

    CH Busted Pump ?

Googling I found some answers on the use of the capacitor... So if the capacitor is ****ed then there would be no imbalance forces so it won't start.... So Dick, in laymans terms, the capacitor is actually charging itself up on each half wave of the AC thus causing the timing delay and...

    CH Busted Pump ?

Dick, the system has been running fine since last November. I've changed this pump 5 years ago after the original pump installed in 2001 by so called professional plumbers went belly up. So I'm quite capable of closing off the valves either side of the pump and swapping them over. I'm sure...

    CH Busted Pump ?

The capacitor may indeed be cheap, but to have it fitted by a timed served, qualified up to the eyeballs plumber will cost a darn sight more than a new pump :) To answer the questions: As I stated in the original post I drained down the system to fix a slight leak on a radiator valve...

    CH Busted Pump ?

Yup, the system filled up fine, and there is plenty of water in the F/E tank. The pump doesn't run... I've let the system get cold, went up and flicked the power switch to the system. Controller lights up, activated the three way valve, but pump just got hot (like too hot to actually hold)...

    CH Busted Pump ?

Hi guys, long time no post ;) Murphys law being what it is, I know I should of left that slightly leaky radiator valve as it was bound to cause trouble... but... I meant well. I drained the system down, replaced the offending olive and then re-filled the system. Then went round and vented...

    Lighting Re-wire

Thanks for the comments, guess I need to contact the local council and enquire how much that will cost me, and how that compares to getting a sparky in to do the complete works

    Lighting Re-wire

Hi, We moved into our house in 2001, and as part of the survey it was suggested that we had the wiring tested due to the age and the fact the previous occupant was a bodge DIYer. The result of the test was that although the insulation tests gave good readings, it was advisable to re-wire the...
