Ok will have a think about if I use the beams or not. Seems simpler without as long as I can pin the DPM to stop it folding over and then trim it back once everything is dried.
I’ll be doing it alone so will only have myself to blame if it goes wrong but this stuff seems to be pretty workable. Not got to support a sky scraper, just somewhere for me to stand while I work.
I do have a DPM to go in, does that complicate things?
Thanks for the info guys. Just what I needed to hear.
Question I still have is do I put beams down the side as a form to tamp against or just fill it wall to wall and eye ball it?
I need to put a concrete floor in my workshop which is brick walled. It’s roughly 2.5m x 2.5m.
Would I need to put some wood beams down the sides to act as a form and a tamping level or is this not required?
I’d also like the finish of the floor to be smooth. Could I manage this with a hand...
I’m getting ready to put a floor down for my 3x3 workshop. I’ve decided I just want to use concrete but unsure what mix to use.
My plan is to fix some wood beams down 2 sides to tamp against and then fill these in once removed.
Any info on what mix I should be using would be greatly...
Yeah I did think they would be the potential areas for them. I’ll get it done soon I’m sure.
I’ll take a look at that stuff, thanks for the recommendation.
Thanks! What would you recommend for sealing them? The pointing will get done, but I need to find a suitable sand. For now the weeds have to fight through weed mat, 100mm of hardcore, 50mm of cement and then 15mm of mortar (y)
Thanks, they’re butt jointed so need some ultra fine sand to fill where they’re off-square.
There is 300mm at the tall end and 250mum at the short end. I’m thinking it would be easier to lay the steps level and have the lower step get shorter as it gets to the short end.
I need to build 2 steps along the width of my patio. As there is quite a fall across the span I am wondering how best to approach it. Should I keep the top step the same height all along with the bottom step going from small to large or should both get bigger as it spans across so the steps is...
What’s the recommendation? My head is just getting filled with more and more doubt as I go on. I’m second guessing every more I make and worry that I’ll suffer again with a rocking slab?
I'll check the bag later. Its defo not old stuff. My usual method has been to add a small amount of water, half the sand, half the cement, bit of water, add the rest of the sand and then rest of cement and then water to dampen the mix.
What does 'not locked in' mean?
I know for sure that I wasn't wetting the slabs - this was not something I'd taken note of from the many how-to's I've read in preparation for this project. What I've done now is to shave the bed. So taking off around 15-20mm of the previous mix and then making...
