went back on the tools last week

Sorry to hear that Moz. I know what your going through, as I'm just back out of hospital (again) with a brand new stainless steel knee. It's expected to last 10 - 15 years before being replaced again and I'm only 46. Can't see many wanting to employ me now. Still living off the...

    Fortnightly waste collection

About 18 months back we were forced onto fortnightly collections, (Lib Dems got in at the local elections) alternating between normal waste and recycleable/garden waste. To put it bluntly it didn't work, and turned out to be a right fiasco. Most families struggling with only the one waste bin...

    Brass audio sockets

If you twist the strands together and then tin the ends, plus not forgetting to tin the tube & flag you should find it easier to get all of the strands in each connection.

    Brass audio sockets

Normally for the type of terminal shown in your pics the most reliable method of termination is to fill the small tube (for want of terminology) with solder, twist the ends of the cable & tin them, then melt the solder in the tube and put the cable into the tube, ensuring no loose strands can...

    Brass audio sockets

It looks like that the phono sockets should be solder connections, trying to get crimp terminals on might be causing shorts between signal & ground.

    Temperature Transducer

The ACS50 only has one analog input, which in most cases is used for the speed reference signal via a potentiometer for the 0/2-10V, or by changing a small dip switch, speed reference can be via an external 0/4-20mA signal. If any external interlocks or other signals are required then they will...

    Towel Rail with Elec Element

Hi Duzzer I'd try having a look in your local B & Q, Focus etc for any towel rails & take note of the manufacturer, then try googling. As for what to use in the radiator personally I'd use transformer oil as that is what we used to refill the oil filled rads at work.

    finders keepers ?

markie Ring your service provider and give them your phones IMEI number, they can then disable the phone. At least the low life who found won't be able to use it. You should be able to find your phones IMEI on a label stuck to the box your phone came in.

Dog Dirt - Clear up or leg it ?

One idea for dealing with it, if you know where the dog owner lives. Put the dog s**t in a paper bag, Place bag onto dog owners doorstep, Set fire to the said bag, Ring doorbell or knock on door, Watch from a safe distance as dog owner now attempts to put fire out by stamping on the bag...

    city and guilds

From what I can remember for three years at tech (77 - 80) doing the C & G 236 parts 1 & 2. These superceded and at the time were the equivalent of the old A & B certificates from a few years earlier. As for extra qualifications, I'd say C & G 2381 (16th edition) would be a neccessity before...
