    Advice on radiator tail leak

The radiator on my landing started to leak last night (well the pipe leading to it anyway). On closer examination I have a longer than normal pipe coming out the the radiator into the valve, which has a step change in radius between the valve and the rad. The leak seems to be coming from the...

    PIR Cover removal

Thanks both. As Joe-90 correctly guessed, it is an Aritech unit, and after the plastering is complete, I will be having it replaced with a smaller, more up to date one. I had not expected this one to be held up by 2 x No. 8 1.5" screws. No chance of that one falling down!

    PIR Cover removal

Can someone advise how I remove the cover of the PIR in the photo? I guess that the cover is prised off, but before getting too carried away with a large screwdriver want to make sure I'm not going to do any serious damage. (The wall is being replastered, and I want to loosen the PIR in...

    ascending spray bidets

I was fortunate (!) enough to use the private toilet of the Head of the State Bank in far east country a number of years ago. They had adopted the DIY bidet approach - 10mm or so copper pipe fed from a high level cistern down into the bowl and then turned upwards!

    Folding 13amp plug

Stumbled across this new version of the 13amp plug whilst browsing - basically it folds so it is only 10mm thick when not in use (aimed at laptops etc.) . It is worth watching the video to the end to see the 3 way adaptor. Web site: http://www.madeinmind.co.uk/plug.php Video...

5 amp round pin plug lamp circuit - multiple lights needed

Were very common in theatre lighting when I was involved in the 80s (and probably still used now). The trade name Grelco was used for any 5 or 15amp adapter, much like hoover is used for a vacuum cleaner. However, I would not recommend their use.

    Water softeners...Guidance needed

We have a Kinetico, which we have no complaints about. Twin cylinders so one is recharging whilst the other is in use. Just don't do what the previous owners of our house did, and install it the loft!

    Consumer Unit and External Trip

Thanks for your replies. Have taken some pictures as suggested. I think they are self explained. In case anyone is wondering, the earth cable which goes through the cutout with the incoming feed is to earth the gas supply.

    Consumer Unit and External Trip

I had a new CU installed when I had my kitchen replaced recently, as the old one was of the rewirable variety. I never saw the guy who did it, but I do have the Part P paperwork. Last night the wife turned the steamer on to cook the veg for dinner, and the whole house was plunged into...

    CO Detectors

Thanks for the advice gents - will proceed with the model you recommend. Can you advise on the best location to install it? I have a Potterton Suprima 100L in the loft, and a gas hob in the kitchen. I had assumed that the best place for the sensor would be on the ceiling on the landing...
