    Oil Central Heating Pressure

Well have you got a copper hot water cylinder with a storage cistern above it, maybe in the loft, if so its gravity fed open vented and your issue is most probably going to be with the taps youve put in.

    Oil Central Heating Pressure

Well if you havent altered your hot water pipe run at all in the process then it will probably be down to your new taps not being suitable for the system you have them on, is it an open vented hot water system?

    How much PTFE?

No, the capnut should never get wet, but if it does, and it often does, and if the olive is tightened to its full extent then ptfe will stop it leaking between the pipe and capnut, rather than putting it on the threads, thats what I was trying to say.

    One for the Corgi guys

Yes i've changed two or three like that on domestic ovens, I think one might have been a Cannon model, and maybe a New World ?

    How much PTFE?

3 or 4, you dont always need it but some people prefer to do it anyway to save time dismantling the joint afterwards, once youve done a couple you will get used to how much to use. What you are trying to achieve is a water tight joint between the olive and the cap nut, where the pipe comes thru...

    How much PTFE?

Cos it aint gonna do no good, a waste of time and energy, if you put it anywhere it needs to be on the olive, I prefer to use jointing paste meself. :)

    right click problem

Yes, I tried this program a while ago and it didn't do the trick but it is very time consuming and easy to miss one out while checking them so I think I will give it another go and hope for the best, thanks for the link :)

Hi, I have a Toshiba laptop, windows xp pro media centre, and I have a niggly problem with the right click menu. If I right click on a file to open or explore or look at properties or whatever, it can take up to 15 seconds to open, same thing if I left click on it to just open it normally...

Advice on Joining the Gas Trade

Yep, being realistic helps, all those who think it's a get rich quick job or easy or the answer to all their problems will have a shock, but again if someone wants to do it bad enough then they will achieve it. I think the main thing is trying to make sure it's the career for you because just...

Advice on Joining the Gas Trade

Cos there are a lot of doom and gloom merchants on here, happy to do the job themselves but feel the need to put anyone else off from learning the trade. :)

Is this a 'Basin Mate' - with pics

The only problem I get with these is using them with a pop up waste is awkward cos the basin mate is so wide when tightened it fouls on the waste system but on normal wastes I use them all the time and they never leak, and they do come with instructions. :)

    Qualified Plumbers; Advice please.

If you want to become qualified and get work bad enough then you will do it but something along the line will need to be sacrificed, as in personal time or whatever. Back in the nineties I decided I wanted to specialise more rather than doing basic plumbing / building work so I enrolled on...

    Cheeky Request

But surely everyone has to start somewhere and sometimes being chucked in at the deep end can be good for you, just depends if he ends up being a good un' or a bad un' i suppose, and hopefully he'll make the decision to always work safely. I would have thought that he would get at least some...

    is nvq3 worth anything???

I did my nvq 3 in the late nineties and as ChrisR says, it's an A level advanced craft certificate in plumbing. We had to learn about pumped firefighting systems used in high rise buildings, dry risers, wet risers etc. Also it did include what they called essential electrics which was wiring and...

Good hole saw for 4" cast?

Use a starret hole saw and use a drill with a low spin speed. Get some cutting oil and a squirt can and get someone to keep the drill cool by giving it a squirt now and again, take your time and you'll get thru it.

Why is it difficult to obtain a written quote

With all due respect, all the tradesmen on here and elsewhere will have their own way of quoting be it verbal, written, or whatever else way there is to do it. There is no right or wrong way and if the way they choose to do it works for them and they are busy and working fairly constantly then...
