    Different Fan Isolator switches

Hi Everyone: We have two bathrooms in this house, each with an extractor fan. I've been working on one of the bathrooms and had to disconnect all the electrics to the room, including the extractor fan isolation switch. I noted down where all the wires were originally attached, but some...

A Question about Wiring Colour Code Conventions

Thanks Ericmark. Also, thanks for the correction about Neutral. I knew it was live, just forgot about it for some reason. Not sure where I got the term "Live" for the brown wire from. But I'll refer to it as "Line" from now on. I asked the question because there is some 3 core + earth...

A Question about Wiring Colour Code Conventions

Hi everyone! I think this is a fairly simple question, but so far I have never seen it explained. In a standard 2 core and earth cable, the normal convention is: Brown = Live and Blue = Neutral. Is there a standard convention for 3 core and earth (e.g. Brown, Black and Grey)? Cheers!

Thanks for your reply. I didn't start a new topic because I was pretty sure about the diagram...

Thanks for your reply. I didn't start a new topic because I was pretty sure about the diagram, just wanted to check it. Thanks for that. The diagram is a bit busy, but I was able to see enough of what was going on to figure it out. It's mainly the earths that are hard to follow. But you...

Pressure Fluctuation in sealed CH system

I thought you'd like that. Funny how everything was pointing towards the expansion vessel. Anyway, I've had it on for over an hour with the boiler control set to 5 (out of 6). The maximum pressure it got up to was about 1.5-1.6 bar. I'm disappointed about the plumber, I have to say...

Pressure Fluctuation in sealed CH system

The Thermal store has an expansion vessel. I'm not sure of the size but it looks to be about 20 L. In any case, problem solved. Phoned Worcester today and an engineer came out. Took him about 2 mins to sort it out. The expansion vessel on the boiler had never been connected. :oops...

Pressure Fluctuation in sealed CH system

doitall - Hmmmm, that's a good one. I'm not sure how accurate a number I can get for the system volume. I'll have a go. We used 22mm pipe out from the boiler for the initial part of the system. Then, as I remember, when the system divided up between upstairs and downstairs we stepped...

Pressure Fluctuation in sealed CH system

doitall - I've added up the output of the radiators currently on the system. There are six hooked up to it at the moment and they total about 38,000 Btu. The two big ones are a little over 10,000 Btu each. The three that aren't on the system right now, will add another 5000 Btu (approx - I...

Pressure Fluctuation in sealed CH system

This is not hard fact, but my recollection is that I have always had to top up the system from time to time since it was installed. Not a lot, though, like I have to do now. Like I say, I never paid attention to how much, just noticed that from time to time the starting cold pressure was less...

Pressure Fluctuation in sealed CH system

Good point. I was thinking about that. No I haven't checked it. Not sure exactly how but I'll do some research. Forgot to mention this earlier but, should I be able to run the temperature control at any level? It's at 3 right now, but that results in not very hot HW. Cheers.

Pressure Fluctuation in sealed CH system

I'm hoping someone has some ideas about what is going on with my central heating system. Here is the basic setup: Boiler = Worcester Greenstar 24i System. It's been installed and working for about 1 year. There is no by pass on it. Instead there is one fitted into the pipe work at the HW...

Suggestions for a mains powered programmable thermostat

Okay, I guess I can see that. How to simply? I think it is probably easier to over engineer then not use most of it, rather than under engineer and not have the capability to adapt. So that is probably why it seems like a sledge hammer and nut. Having said that - I obviously didn't use a...

Suggestions for a mains powered programmable thermostat

Hi Everyone! I've been upgrading the CH system in our house. We have a new system boiler now (Worcester Bosch) and a new DHW tank. I was going to control the tank with a Danfoss TS715, which is already attached to the tank. For CH I wanted a mains powered programmable thermostat. Not...

    Plasterboarding Velux Window Reveal

Here I am. Up at 7:30, cuppa tea in hand. I'll be working on this until 10pm. Some days I don't care if I wake the neighbours - until I get that look from my wife . . . --------- Doc P. S.: Long hours really just means very inefficient . . .

    Plasterboarding Velux Window Reveal

Ok. I thought I knew how to do that, but I guess I don't. How do you post a picture? Cheers . . .

    Plasterboarding Velux Window Reveal

Latest report: So far so good. Got the ceiling plasterboarded but I haven't done the reveals for the Velux windows yet. I'll probably start that tomorrow. It's taken so much time because each piece of plasterboard had to be pretty much specially cut in order to fit. Then it had to be...

    Plasterboarding Velux Window Reveal

Don't know if my luck has turned or my last post did it but: The plasterboard arrived just after the skies cleared for a bit. No wind or rain - and the driver even helped me off load into the house! Finished the day with a couple of boards up on the ceiling. The plan was to have it mainly...

    Plasterboarding Velux Window Reveal

Pilot holes is a good idea. I'd feel better with a couple of screws in so I'll try it and see how I get on. Got my first bit of ceiling board up today. Used up the last I had and now waiting for the delivery man. So answer this: Can you explain why every time I order plasterboard it...

    Plasterboarding Velux Window Reveal

Thanks Roughcaster! I agree with you. The end product will have a corner bead and be skimmed so no one will know. I'll go with Option 2 just because I think it better to have more plasterboard between the edge and where the screw goes. Option 1 still looks right to me however. Do I also...
