    Kitchen Wiring

They all do.. If you were to ask me to quote for this work I would strongly suggest having a periodic inspection carried out initially. It will allow for any existing concerns and dangers to be risen and now is the ideal opportunity for you to get such issues attended to. If your...

    External socket

If it turns out that these socket are not on an extended ring, and have been spurred off, if you can install a fcu at the point where the spur comes from the original ring then you can put a number of sockets and points from there on..

    What do you think?

I think if this is the way that domestic work is directed to avoid the RCD issue (I advise this method often) then this is a really good example. The MI is easily workable and identifiable, good job. Quick question, have you used two core and pots with earth tags?

    new tester

It's correct that the theory of testing an RCD at the 'end' of the circuit as 'necessary practice' is wrong. This common opinion has most likely been 'encouraged' by the fact the Electricity at work regs state that we should wherever possible avoid working 'Live'. This has caused colleges and...

Best method for terminating SWA into domestic CU?

Why a trouser box? I sometimes use a 4x4 adaptable box, or run a piece of steel trunking along the bottom. Saying that, I usually use an MK board with an insulated front and a metal base, easiest way then.

    new tester

The ATT should be turned off when possible to maintain accuracy. I use the KT65 myself, the most annoying thing about these testers is the auto enabling of ATT. However it's purpose is understandable. Try to take a few readings on a circuit with the ATT off. Allow for a little 'cool down'...

Running power to garage through garden - how?

Well first I would ask I you had decided on ductwork? Then I would ask if you are digging the trench? I priced a similar job to this a few weeks ago. It was SWA run along the garden with sockets & lights in a double shed. With a switch isolator in the house, and some LED's in the decking...

Running power to garage through garden - how?

TBH armoured is still the best option, if you want containment to accomodate future use then maybe get some ducting installed in the garden along the run? Make sure you put a rope in it though.

Route to becoming Domestic Installer with NIC EIC

Can you do something at home? When I had my initial assessment for the domestic installer scheme I showed him a house down the road from me. So for the second job a changed a socket at home with him observing. *A little tip - If you can carry out the safe isolation procedure near enough...

    new tester

If it is bought new then it should have a year included. Normally with Kewtech's it is a piece of tracing paper with registration info on. ATT stands for anti trip technology. You need this on if there is an RCD upstream of your test as it is likely to trip. Using ATT apply's less current...

    Testing House...

What experience do you have? I am not trying to raise a debate but I am surprised that someone who considers themselves experienced would raise such a question. Whom? So what training have you had in inspection & testing?

Replacing flex on Class 1 fitting with no CPC?

As long as you have made the correct observations, and recorded them down for their benefit and more importantly YOURS, then you have done the right thing. If they dont want the work done to make it safe, it's up to them. If you didn't do the work and leave them the advisory, they may have...
