    Vectra cam belt

Update - any home mechanic doing a cam belt change on this model might want to read this. Unable to get my damaged bolt out with any hand tool. You were right Softus, had to bite the bullet and take the head off with an angle grinder. Sourced a new tensioner and masked off the...

    Vectra cam belt

Tried to unscrew the tensioner bolt and ended up with a torx bit with a lump of adhesive on it pinging across the floor. I have a 1/2" drive stud extractor but am loath to use it as it is a bit heavy duty for this fairly delicate area. Any ideas how to get this bolt...

    Vectra cam belt

Guys I really do appreciate you taking the time and trouble to advise me when I have posted asking for help. Jonny I have seen many of your previous posts and you clearly know what you are talking about. Certainly no offence taken. It was pretty clumsy to strip the bolt head. BTW whats wrong...

    Vectra cam belt

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to help me. Jonny, to take your points in order. Following your earlier post I had a look at the water pump sprocket and saw the timing mark on it. This is not mentioned at all in Haynes. I set it to 12 o'clock as you said. How does this...

    Vectra cam belt

I am having a nightmare. I finally persuaded the belt on, doing one of the idler pulleys last and using a bit of water to lubricate. Did a couple of turns of the engine. Timing marks correct. Looking good. Set the tensioner to 'New' for the new belt. Got the torque wrench and...

    Vectra cam belt

Timing marks are stamped in to the camshaft sprockets and these marks face each other at TDC. Crankshaft sprocket has a stamped in mark which aligns with a pointer at TDC. Seems quite idiot proof :!: I certainly haven't moved the water pump intentionally. I am only renewing the belt...

    Vectra cam belt

Will have another look tomorrow - hope you are right and the problem will be obvious after a nights kip! Thanks for your help jayzee - haven't you got anything better to do on a Saturday night though? :D

    Vectra cam belt

Thanks jayzee for taking the trouble to reply. To answer your questions: Yes. Yes, and I think belt would go on even if sprockets have moved. There isn't, and I have. I know what you mean though - I have always had more than enough slack before. And finally I tried...

    Vectra cam belt

I am replacing the cam belt on my Vectra. My problem is that there is not enough slack in the belt to get it over all the sprockets and pulleys. I am sure the tensioner is in the correct position. i.e. putting the least tension on the belt. Also that the belt routing is correct. I...

    Noisy hot water

Hi, I have what seems to be a standard residential set up with a pump in the airing cupboard driving both HW and CH systems heated by an external boiler. I have bled the rads and the pump. There is no noise when only the CH is on. When the HW kicks in there is a regular 'flushing'...

brake lights not working on Renault Laguna 1999

Check all the fuses. With spade connector car fuses you can usually tell by looking if the fuse has gone - the connection from one side to the other will have melted away. I would also check the state of the wiring to the rear light clusters and the boot area generally. In particular the...

Brake pedal goes to the floor.

It is their responsibility to deal with this fault. You will have to persevere until you get satisfaction and not allow them to fob you off. You will have to go up the food chain in the organisation until someone with authority decides to get this problem sorted. If the local manager...

Using trolley jack instead of standard car jack

I use a block of wood that fits in the 'cup' of the trolley jack to prevent damage to jacking points. Been jacking up cars, for maintenance, like this for years, no probs. As the jack begins to take the weight it tends to move. I keep a close eye that it is still on the jacking point and...

    Corsa 1994 temp gauge

mcv, the symptoms you describe suggest to me that your thermostat is not working. It is stuck open and the engine coolant is circulating via the radiator at all times. When idling or in slow traffic the thermostat would normally be open to enable maximum cooling. When on the...

    Civic slipping clutch

I just had the clutch replaced on a Fiat. The clutch kit cost just over £100+ VAT. Add 4 hrs labour came to £325 with VAT.

    new brake pads

When changing brake pads I have used a softwood baton to lever the pistons back into the caliper. I haven't experienced any difficulty with this method. I have seen people mention caliper wind back tools on this site. Is it better to use this tool?

Peugeot 307 Left Indicator not working after bulb changes

If the indicator bulb is failing this often it would seem that you have a fault in the car. Possibly vibration of the bulb, or an electrical fault. Your car should still be under warranty, normally 3 years? If so take it back to the dealer and get them to fix it.
