Worcester 350 Heat exchanger / Gas valve : Hot & cold wa

Ollski: please don’t pick and choose my sentences in a chronologically inaccurate order and proceed to build a story around them….if you really want to do that, try to work for the tabloids, which may not be a bad idea since what you identified as being ‘2 critical gas seals’ (which I originally...

Worcester 350 Heat exchanger / Gas valve : Hot & cold wa

Tony: And perhaps you missed the fact that skiers were killed as a result of snow! (Please, no more irrelevant analogies). I agreed that I’m not gas registered and I also agreed that I therefore wouldn’t attempt to remove the potentially lethal gas valve! (which is what I said a long time...

Worcester 350 Heat exchanger / Gas valve : Hot & cold wa

Chris, you've also made it patently clear you can't read/understand....I never said I wasn't competent, infact, I substantiated my claim by stating that I had diagnosed, replaced and fixed various problems which had arise with my boiler...but you seem to disregard that. Also, I never misread...

Worcester 350 Heat exchanger / Gas valve : Hot & cold wa

Decent suggestions???? The retaining clips of the water to water heat exchanger are located behind the exchanger on the side which is obstructed by the gas valve NOT the expansion vessel….therefore, hardly a decent suggestion. (Which is why, after consulting the manual, which clearly states...

Worcester 350 Heat exchanger / Gas valve : Hot & cold wa

Bloody hell! People call me incompetent (or at least, not competent) but at least I can read, write and stick to the point! Ollie20, nobody wants to wip [sic] out the expansion vessel...so don't worry about it. Nickso, thanks for your input and alluding to the fact that I am misreading...

Worcester 350 Heat exchanger / Gas valve : Hot & cold wa

Boys, you’re getting sidetracked! Kevplumb : Like I said, I want to know as I have a thirst for knowledge (however, I won't be attempting it as it's against all rules and regulations and laws and by-laws...any others Tony?). Ollski : I never said I wasn't competent in my first post...which...

Worcester 350 Heat exchanger / Gas valve : Hot & cold wa

LOL @ mistakenly being called incompetent! Anyway, like I said nickso, you can tell me as I won't be attempting the work myself but rather, calling in a much more 'competent' professional.

Worcester 350 Heat exchanger / Gas valve : Hot & cold wa

Hi nickso, after re-reading your first post, I've now noticed that you mention removing the PHE however, my original post was concerned with removing the secondary/water to water heat exchanger, as by all accounts this is probably the culprit for the intermittently hot and cold water. (Is...

Worcester 350 Heat exchanger / Gas valve : Hot & cold wa

Thanks Nickso. I too thought the heat exchanger could be removed without removing the gas valve, but strangely, that's not what the instruction manual says. (Maybe, the instruction manual states the ‘best/most practical’ way of gaining access to the heat exchanger rather than the...

Worcester 350 Heat exchanger / Gas valve : Hot & cold wa

Thanks for pointing out the rules Tony. I've now decided against attempting the work myself but will instead call out an appropriately qualified engineer. However, due to work commitments I won't be able to call them out until next week, so in the meantime, could anybody quench my thirst for...

Worcester 350 Heat exchanger / Gas valve : Hot & cold wa

I have a Worcester combi 350 boiler and I'd like to de-scale my secondary/water to water heat exchanger as I'm having problems with intermittently hot and cold water from the shower (and after a lengthy process of elimination, I believe this to be the culprit). After reading the instruction...

Replacing switch...Tingle. Ouch! Power definately off.

A borrowed neutral would make sense....maybe it's being borrowed with next door?! How 'live' can a borrowed neutral become? I.e. can it reach 230 V? or is it usually less that this, or does it depend on the situation?

Replacing switch...Tingle. Ouch! Power definately off.

I isloated the mains, by switching off everything at the fuse box and pulling out all the fuses! Everything went off/stopped working, including the neon light at the front of the isolator switch. While volt sticks may not be the best piece of equiptment, I know this isn't a false positive as...

Replacing switch...Tingle. Ouch! Power definately off.

Thanks lads. It's just been suggested to me that it could be 'back feed' from the neutral?!?! (Apparently a common situation with the way old wiring was hooked up?! No idea if this is true).....anyway, if I confirm this with a multimeter, i.e. that there is a relatively low reading from the...

Replacing switch...Tingle. Ouch! Power definately off.

I'm sorry, you've totally lost me. Are you asking, if the boiler could still be live? Maybe, but I was assuming that everything was off because I switched the power off. I don't understand how the boiler could still be on. Yet again, excuse my ignorance in this matter.

Thank you very much Matthew. I'm not underestimating that wahtsoever. I'm just slightly miffed at a reply a long the lines of 'Oh dear. Go and buy a multimeter'.....?!? And then what.......?! Go and put your feet up and have a cuppa?!.....Go to the pub?!?! Go and do something constructive...

Will that fix the problem Steve?! Oh dear, I don't think it will! Thanks for your helpful suggestions JohnD.

Replacing switch...Tingle. Ouch! Power definately off.

I do indeed live in the upstairs floor of a very old flat - but I did switch off downstairs' electric as well (just in case), but the same thing still happened. (I doubt it could be from next door's wiring, but who knows!). I'll have a look for the green and yellow wires, but at the moment...

Replacing switch...Tingle. Ouch! Power definately off.

    a) 'near the wires' means that the voltmeter wasn't picking up any signal outside the socket (which it usually does, when the power is on and the socket is switched on) but rather, that it was only picking up a signal when the face plate was removed, and when I held it next to the wires now on...
