Ha! turns out there was nothing wrong with it after all, by the looks of it the filter had never been cleaned from new! $5 for the machine + 5 minutes to clean filter = one really good bargain, just the way I like it.

Same problem with Philco RWM 1012. Oddly enough, I am also an electrical engineer :-) I have my bets placed on the timer module, but it looks to be one of those "no user serviceable parts inside" type deals. Guess I'll just have to drill the rivets out. Will let you know if I get it...
