    Interesting responses! Well it turns out that there's no earth in the flat, not even from the pipes or anything?? why thats the case I don't know, and as my spark has ead to me.....you've been b****y lucky. I've also got spurs runing from spurs running from spurs and not on a ring circuit...

    plastering/skimming

    I've got a wide hole in plaster (1.5m by 1/2m) that I have filled ok. However, now comes the tricky part...skimming to get flat and smooth with rest of wall. Any tips for this would be appreciated. cheers

    I plan to hang paper on the plastered walls, but heard that new plaster will soak up the paste which is why I wanted to prime first. Never heard of dilluted emulsion to do this job, but why not!

    Tanks for all the v. useful advice, Just to continue the debate. I do plan to paper over the lining, but don't fully understand why you would want to leave a gap when you have the option of butting together when haning? is there an particular advantage to this? cheers
