    New shower cable

I'm going to make some assumtions here so please don't shoot me down if i'm wrong, i'm just offering a worst case scenario based on what is possible. Firstly, i wouldn't be surprised if the fuse board was an old timber backed Wylex unit if we're talking about rewirable fuses. These boards will...

    Boiler wiring question

As Slup said my first drawing was correct the switched live is optional, the instructions state that it's only used when the boiler is heating DHW as well as CH. Your only using it for CH so terminals 1 and 2 are the only ones that need to be used. All things considered it would be far simpler...

    outside pir security fllodlight

Have you had a brief power cut. Try turning power off to the fitting for 10 seconds then reinstating the power. Most PIR floods have an override on them where by if you switch them on and off quickly it will go in to a permanent on mode. Repeating this process will put it back to normal...

Apologies, must read post properly next time. 300mm a bit close for comfort definitely.

changing fuses on European to UK travel adaptors

If you buy those sort of adapters ensure you get good quality ones. I'm sure they should feature the kite mark and be fused. There are alot of cheap knock off ones out there which are unfused and potentially lethal.

    New Kitchen

What's the problem with that? It's not unacceptable to put sockets in cupboards nor is there a set distance to have a socket or switch from a sink or hob. It's unacceptable to have them directly above such items but 300mm is a good distance IMO especially considering the size of some kitchens...

changing fuses on European to UK travel adaptors

How long are you planning on staying in Ireland. If it's a permanent arrangement have you thought about changing the european plugs for 3 pin 13A plugs? Can't imagine it would cost too much or take too long.

extending lighting circuit by adding a new light and switch

Very clever indeed! Made me feel right guilty for think i swored as well you did!

extending lighting circuit by adding a new light and switch

It obviously didn't like what i wrote even though it was exactly what you wrote BAS. Must have been the way i spelt it and i promise you it wasn't an expletive in any language i know. Anyway, ColJack your right i'm making an assumption here that it was a detached garage. I won't go in to what...

extending lighting circuit by adding a new light and switch

That'll be the arrangement he's got except without the 'supply to next light'. Now i'm guessing you haven't got any 6241Y in you shed so go grab the twin and earth cable you used for your outside light. Take a piece from the light fitting on the ceiling to the switch and connect it as the...

extending lighting circuit by adding a new light and switch

The 4 core cable and the 3 core cable you refer to have only live and earth wires in them. The 3 core i assume is flat grey cable. This will be 2 live wires (permanent live and switch live) and an earth. The 4 core (again flat grey cable) will go between the 2 switches. This will be 3 live wires...

    Ground lighting in garden

Looks like i'll be having fun with the resin joints then. I'll see about running the main SWA runs along the fence at low level then teeing off an accessible joint on the fence to a resin Y joint which i can then make both lights off in to. The garden doesn't get dug up much but the cables need...

    rcd bathrooms

What is the work you are looking to carry out? I'm assuming your looking to do some alterations to the lighting circuit in the bathroom or does the work extend to other parts of the lighting circuit? Do you have more then 1 lighting circuit in your house and if so how many and what is on each of...

    Ground lighting in garden

Because they're piddly little lights rather then a sizable architectural light. Making an SWA off directly in to the light would be impossible hence the reason for jointing the cable. My only other option (and i don't think it's a particularly good one) would be to bury conduit up to the light...

    Ground lighting in garden

Point well made BAS and changed first post accordingly. Basic college stuff the voltage bands but it's too easy to slip in to bad habits not using the terminology correctly. If i was to resin up these joints then what would be the best way to secure the flying lead from the light in to my...

    Boiler wiring question

Okay, you'll need to find some way of getting power to the programmer and RF unit for the room stat. Preferably you want to take it from a supply within the boiler but if it hasn't got a low current mains voltage output you'll have to install a fuse spur from another source. This will only be...

    Ground lighting in garden

I've been asked to price for a job which involves putting some halogen spike lights in a garden. Usually if i was doing this i would select extra low voltage lighting which just needs a bit of conduit and extra low voltage flex to each light. Always nice and simple as you don't need to worry...
