    stud work timber

89mm is easier to fit insulation in and in my opinion the best choice however 63mm is often used just as much. It sometimes just gets specified in drawings on builds for example on my extension any studs off the main hall ways were 89mm where the ensuite walls in a room were on 63mm if they...

Advice/information please - potential problems caused by drilling into cavity wall for air vent.

I doubt you will be able to be diplomatic, he either doesn't care or is too chilled out to care if you know what I mean. I would draw it on paper something like this Not sure it will mean much to a chilled out guy though.

    Upgrading kitchen units

As said above I would stick it out with that kitchen for a month or two. Around my way there is a guy that will spray doors however you want them and also any trims that are the wrong colour he sorts them to. I have never had it done but from the pictures I have seen he does a really good job...

Advice required for boarding out a loft (with down-lights)

Local timber yard is going to be alot cheaper than BnQ that's for sure. I would also pre drill the holes somewhat with the length you need to screw into. the other option is to go in at a angle to screw to both bits of wood but that is not ideal as you could push centres out doing it that way.

    Hollow walls?

As footprints says. I had to put oak battens up to pit my curtain poles in my old house that was new build as I had the same issue. It actually looks quite nice if you use a good bit of plained oak and oil.

    Replacing an interior door frame

Pack it out to fit the frame you have/can fit in the space, It will make it easier to get it all plumb anyway. If you can make it good to your taste and are happy you have no issues. Just make sure you secure it all well.

Process of getting an extension underway?

Well I started with the Architect and got my ideas to him (but I had an Idea of what I wanted anyway) he then drew it up, once it was agreed that what we wanted and that we were going to go ahead we applied for planning and started getting prices for the works. Passed planning, needed some...

    SNP hypocrites

I don't care either way, just because shops are open longer it doesn't mean I will spend more money, It does mean I can choose when is more convenient for me to spend it. As for wreaking family life well I guess it can do but then the 17 + workforce also needs somewhere to work and they are...

    Electrical help!!!

Do you have a meter you can check continuity of the cables with? Isolate the supply and check if the cables on the section that's tripping haven't been screwed into when putting plasterboard up. If its not that then most probably a crossed wire. either way you need access to the junction boxes.

    Garage insulation

I'm pretty sure the council cant stop you heating your garage even if it is using the CH system, at the end of the day you aren't going to do much more than store stuff and work on projects and if they ever wanted to check they could. My new garage (we now have two) after our renovations...

Pellet Boiler Installed and happy to help anyone thinking of having one.

Hi drpepe what sort of info do you need? I can't comment on cost to run as of yet other than to say it seems to be working out cheaper than my LPG was but we are only 16 days in. What do you need to know about installation?

    Vapour Barrier

The normal way would be pre plan wiring, 1st fix for lights and fit all cables, then fit PB, this is where things can differ I always drill for downlights at this point but lots let the plasterer come in here. Insulate in the loft laying onto PB and over joists depending on depth requirement...

Its a Little wet and wild here in Wales today but I managed to get a few more snaps of it. Left side holds the burner and ash pan, also the controller can be found here. The hopper takes up the right side and holds about 15 bags approx. The Electrics control board is also this side (not...

    Garage insulation

if your putting 30mm insualtion in the floor why not buy the boards with the groves for pipes on wet UFH, don't plumb it in until the BC have signed off and hide the tails somewhere. If you are going to all the trouble of insulating etc it seems daft that BC wont sign off as it uses part of the...

    Garage insulation

I assume you are going to use the room as a workshop in the winter? I did mine (all be it not attached to the house) 1inch battens 20mm kingspan between and I think it was 75 or 80mm board over the top with sheets of Ply covering that. Make sure you tape the joints!!! As for heating I fitted...
