    Sewage smell in the kitchen

Photo of drains outside from a couple of months ago before the drain was unblocked: The white pipe is kitchen waste, the downpipe on the left is bathroom waste, the one of the right is for rainwater. No extension... yet. Thinking of getting one (most likely a conservatory), looks like I'll...

    Sewage smell in the kitchen

I've been haunted by an intermittent sewage smell in the kitchen ever since I moved in. My first suspect was the waste pipe that goes from the kitchen sink into the outside drain. The drain was blocked so I thought it was the smell from the drain that was coming up the drain pipe and into the...

What load can my shed cable take?

Thanks for all the input. ASHP sounds the best option then. The guidelines for the UK are 1kW per 10m2, which works out to 3kW for my studio, so the existing cable should be good enough, but I'll try and replace it while laying the pipes.

What load can my shed cable take?

Yes, concrete gravel boards and concrete posts. As I said a section of the existing cable is already attached like that. Why do you think UFH wouldn't work? I've seen UFH work well in other places. When you're in direct contact with the floor most of the time (as you are while doing yoga), the...

What load can my shed cable take?

I was thinking of attaching it to the top of the gravel boards, as the patio section of the current cable is attached.

What load can my shed cable take?

Thanks guys. To give you a better idea of the project: I'm planning on replacing the current shed with a larger structure with a floor area of ~30 m2 (5x6 mt). It will be a yoga studio of sorts, with laminate flooring, underfloor heating and a cloakroom (toilet + washbasin). The shed is not...

What load can my shed cable take?

I can't see any markings. The breaker it's connected to is 32A. I wouldn't draw any conclusions from that though. The cable is roughly 50 metres long and most of it is buried in the ground. Can't I use a 23A breaker like this one?

What load can my shed cable take?

I have an electric cable running from the house to the shed. For most of its length it's buried 6-7" deep in the ground. The cable is not the flexible / rubber type, it's rigid, most likely copper (?). The external diameter is 7mm. I wonder what kind of load it can take? I've seen some tables...

    Removing switch/socket box extenders

You can see more pictures under those links on the left hand side, or did you see them already and they didn't answer your question? It doesn't have a battery that I'm aware of.

    Removing switch/socket box extenders

Will double check tonight, thanks. No, what would be the possible reasons that it might not be? FYI it's rated for up to 300W. If it's not suitable I'll use it elsewhere in the house. I'm planning on replacing all 1-way light switches, there are at least 2 others remaining.

    Removing switch/socket box extenders

Yes, in the 'off' state the blue light comes on. I need it for a heat recovery extractor fan, which doesn't have an on/off switch. It has a pull cord, but that only changes speeds. I wanted to be able to switch it off when I didn't need it running constantly (e.g. in the summer), and this new...

    Removing switch/socket box extenders

Until yesterday I didn't even know there was such a thing as 1 way and 2 way. I'm learning as I go.

    Removing switch/socket box extenders

Here are the 2 products I've got: 1 gang 2 gang I've tested the 1 gang one and it works with the light switch in one of the bedrooms, which is a ceiling fan with LED bulbs. I didn't test it with the fan isolator switch. It's wired differently: all 3 wires - live, neutral and earth are wired to...

    Removing switch/socket box extenders

47mm are more common, I thought 40mm would be better. The switches are most likely Chinese, but I'd think it wouldn't matter?

    Removing switch/socket box extenders

    I couldn't find 40mm boxes anywhere else.

    Removing switch/socket box extenders

I didn't have a written contract and we didn't discuss such details. They offered a good price, which included a complete bathroom refit with rewiring, re-tiling and fitting any and all fixtures and fittings I wanted. They'd ask me where I wanted them to fit what, mark it out with a pencil and...

    Removing switch/socket box extenders

Yes it's the angle, I was trying to show where the cables go. Hope this photo makes is clearer. The boxes are 35mm deep. Apart from these, I also have a transformer for the extractor fan (not shown here) which is on a 20mm surface mounted box, and would like to sink that in the wall too.

    Removing switch/socket box extenders

There are no visible cables on either side. The switches are not on the wall between the bathroom and the landing, but the adjoining wall between the landing and a bedroom, 2" from the corner. The underfloor heating cable goes into the corner, through the wall and then down to the floor on the...

    Removing switch/socket box extenders

Cheers. Can I sink the existing surface mount boxes in the wall or is it better to use back boxes meant for in-wall mounting? Does it make a difference?

    Removing switch/socket box extenders

The cables themselves are buried. It's a solid wall to the best of my knowledge.
