Is this to be expected ?

Again as per the previous post I don't know any of the specifics....I will do the walk test though. The extension was undertaken by a local (just up the road) builder who does a lot of work on our estate....we have three separate friends on the estate who have undertaken extension work on the...

Had two storey extension on house which started late July and finished early Nov. All of the plaster on the stud walls (stud walls only externals are fine) have blown the plaster in the corners as per the pics. This has happened both upstairs and downstairs, on ceilings and on walls. Is this...

    Local access only

Get another Ethernet cable and try with a wired connection to the router....we need to prove whether this is a wireless problem to the router or a problem with the router itself. Also have you tried turning the power off and on on the router ?

    whats the difference?

Echo dave.m comments. Bar a small stint at colleague (many moons ago) I haven't really used a MAC. I would think you are more likely to get support from family, friends, colleagues etc...if you use Windows unless they all use MAC's

    Nc4200 dead?

IF it needs a new hard disk it will probably set you back about £40. You might get away with a format and a reload on the current disk. If you decide to scrap then you might get a decent few quid on eBay as repairers will be interested in buying for components they can use e.g. screen...

Cat5e RJ45 surface mount on skirting or wall

All routers i've seen usually only have 4 ports.....you're going to need a small switch if you go down this route. I can't help thinking wireless or home plug might have been a simpler solution here. From what you have described it sounds like you should have no problems to me. Don't...

    New monitor

Doesn't look like it has a digital input, VGA analog only....this may not bother you depending on what connections your PC has and what you intend to use the monitor for. Nice enough looking bit of kit though, I myself have ran a 19" LG Widescreen for a couple of years now....not a pick of...

PC can receive mail but not send

You cannot contact the virgin (ntlworld) SMTP (outgoing) server using an internet connection from another ISP, Vodafone in your case.....ISP's block this to ensure that they are only delivering mail from their customers and not SPAM etc...from anyone on the Internet. You will also notice that...

    wireless connectivity "as and when"

European drivers will let you use all 13 channels. :) The only other thing to watch out for is 802.11d world mode....if enabled this could also be causing your problem.

    wireless connectivity "as and when"

If this is just a wireless problem i.e. you can access the internet via a cable connection to the router then I suspect you are running USA wireless card drivers....the USA is only allowed to use channels 1 to 11. Does channel 12 work ?
