    Thatcher Dead

She took on the unions and won. She took on the Argentinians and won. Those that remember the times, will remember the state the UK was in when she took office. She left it in far better condition than she found it, which is more than can be said for ALL that followed. RIP....

Washing machine tripping RCD - advice please

"If overloading is the cause then what options do i have?" The sparks could put in another breaker/circuit.

    skybox f3

Its a basic box that gives you access to the freesat channels. You can also 'for a subscription' gain access to the other sky channels. Far better I'd have thought to get one of the top end Sky+ boxes.

    Disaster from builders leak!

Hi Once the wood has swollen it has to be replaced, it will never be perfect again. Putting a heater in to dry it out will not help matters. Fast drying of the wood will make it worse than slow drying. Get them to replace it.

Washing machine tripping RCD - advice please

"what is actually happening?" In essence, RCCBs (residual current circuit breakers) are earth leakage detectors, it has perhaps detected a short circuit, probably caused by water on electrical parts. The fuse would also trip if the circuit was overloaded. Exactly how many servers.....they...

Washing machine tripping RCD - advice please

Hi If its tripping regularly its 'shorting' somewhere, almost certainly the washing machine itself.....with water involved I'd not risk using it. Wait for the sparks to give it the once over. Alternatively, could the washing machine be overloading the circuit. its unlikely, but possible...

    internet through satellite dish

"My friend in France had a two way sat system for a while. "Very expensive and upload speed very slow." That's because the up signal goes via the phone line, to transmit to a sat you need a pretty big dish..... ;-)

    power supply+ fan help

"The 3 major components that output heat is your CPU, graphics card and your hard-disk." Not forgetting the power supply itself. probably one of the largest producers of heat in most PCs.

    Ext.HD failed

XR4x4 His concern is not lost data, he still has that on his PC, his concern is his personal data returning to Amazon on the 'currently' faulty disk, who knows where it will ultimately end up. As you state, if someone was to remove it from the casing, it'll probably work. Where does...

    Ext.HD failed

I have one of these (well the usb 3.0 version), you cannot remove them from the case without damaging the case, it's a sealed unit. BUT, if you wish to keep the disk and fit it in a PC, it's possible that the issue is caddy/usb related, hard disks are pretty reliable. Try re-partioning it...

    Ext.HD failed

Given that you cannot read the disk, you probably can't write(erase) to it either. Only option IMHO, is to attempt to put a new partition on it......and as you are using EaseUS for the backup, why not use their partition tool. It might work. Once the new partition has been created format...

Where do I start my laminate floor

It should be run parallel to the longest wall. If the room is square, 'I' tend to run it perpendicular to the door (wood that is, I have never used laminate).

    Woodworm - Crumbling Oak Beams

Hi I live in a brick building attached to a barn it was mentioned in the 1841 census (so its at least 170 years old possibly much older), it also has plenty of oak beams much like yours. In short, if the woodworm has been noted as dead, you have little to worry about, as for scraping...

Extractor Fan Replacement - Like for Like

Yes, but AFAIK, that is built-in to the transformer unit, there are only 2 wires going to the fan....

    Wet underfloor heating

'Engineered' wood flooring does not move as 'much' as solid wood..... ....but it still moves. Regardless, a few square yards of laminate is unlikely to be as expensive to replace as 20 square yards of Parquet.... ;-)

Extractor Fan Replacement - Like for Like

AFAIK, and it's made pretty clear in the Part P guide as issued by HMG. A straight replacement of an existing item for maintenance purposes (switch, fan, socket, ceiling rose, etc, etc) is classed under Part p as not notifiable, even in 'special areas'. i.e. Bathrooms, Kitchens, etc... So...

    Nightmare with one radiator

Hi A shot in the dark here, but there are two valves on a radiator, one of which can be thermostatic, and the other is adjustable in order to balance flow through the radiators, i.e. restrict flow. Could it be that this second vale is either down tight or blocked? It was just a thought.
