Two extractor fans in one room?

I'm laying insulation between our ground floor and first floor and there are two extractor fan pipes running to the same location on the outside of the house (see first pic) and which both appear to be running to the same location in our house (above the downstairs toilet). In the downstairs...

    Lifting flooring

Thanks - we're keen to DIY (within reason) so apologies if I'm asking really basic questions. I'm also aware of my limitations and last thing I want is floor collapsing, so really appreciate all your help. A few follow on questions:- 1. What type of joist hanger should I use? 2. Should I...

    Installing Light Fitting

Anyone able to help with this? The Aurora Transformer States that:- "- Fully dimmable with resistive & inductive dimmers". Does this refer to the light switch or the actual light fitting itself? And are our B&Q dimmer switch/Next Light Fitting compatible with this transformer...

    Installing Light Fitting

Is this transformer compatible with our light fitting and dimmer switch? http://www.arrowelectricals.co.uk/lighting-accessories-c15/transformers-drivers-c35/aurora-au-rd105-35-105w-va-round-dimmable-electronic-transformer-p2487

    Lifting flooring

In height terms, the biggest difference between the height of neighbouring joists is +/-5mm (joists at 400mm centres) The handyman basically said that his saw couldn't get tight to the walls - I did query this at the time! Should he have cut right to the walls and simply didn't have the...

    Installing Light Fitting

I reckon this would be a tight fit in the existing light fitting housing - is there a smaller product in diameter, or it possible to tuck it into the ceiling and encase in a plasterboard box / downlight cap (similar to the product linked below)...

    Lifting flooring

Couple of other things to pick up:- The floor prior to being lifted was quite squeaky and there was also a lot of impact noise created, so that when one of us was walking around in the bedroom, the impact noise was quite loud in the living room below. We're therefore looking to soundproof...

    Lifting flooring

I agree I don’t want to go messing with the joists in any significant capacity. Is there a workaround so that we could slightly increase the height of the joist that is sitting slightly lower than the neighbouring joists? Thanks. So splintering irrelevant – will ignore this from now...

    Installing Light Fitting

So basically the problem is the transformer in the light fitting? If so, we'll go ahead ahead and replace with the Halotronuc. Any other type we could use if this one doesn't fit? And the Halotronic is definitely compatible with the B&Q dimmer switch (ie it's not a trailing edge...

    Installing Light Fitting

Have had a look at both the transformer on the Next light fitting, and I cannot see the word "eaglerise" anywhere (see pic below). I've even taken the transformer fully out the casing and there's no mention of the rogue word. I've double checked the light fitting instructions from Next (see...

    Lifting flooring

Finally, some of the joists appear to be slightly lower or higher in places (see pic of skirting board, which I've checked with a straight edge and the skirting is level). The chap who lifted the floorboards suggested the joists might be slightly warped in places. Is this correct / normal...

    Lifting flooring

Separately, some of the now exposed joists have got a bit of flaking of wood / hairline cracks in them. Is this superficial / nothing to worry about, or should we be getting this looked at? LINK TO ORIGINAL SIZED IMAGE:- http://i57.tinypic.com/2uokokl.jpg LINK TO ORIGINAL SIZED...

    Lifting flooring

Have now got flooring lifted between living room and bedroom above. (got handyman in to do this, just didn't want to take the risk). We are laying insulation in the void and then putting the floorboards back down. At the right hand side of the room, the last joist was effectively under...

    Installing Light Fitting

FINALLY got product installed today by electrician - see pic below. However, when the product is in operation, the transformer makes this high pitched, constant, sound which isn't overly loud but is definitely noticeable in a quiet room. Why does it do this / is this normal? We have...

    Downlighters for hallway

What would other forum members suggest would be the right height for the following:- 1. Ceramic half bowl uplighter on the return wall on the stairwell (first pic) 2. Two wall lights (see Homebase link below) on either side of the bathroom door on our upstairs landing (second pic) ...

    Lifting flooring

Thanks. How on earth do I establish the depth of the floorboards though, without actually cutting one up? If cutting a piece out over a joist, then is this completely safe from electrics i.e. surely there simply cannot be any electrics running between the joists and the floorboard!

    Lifting flooring

Have decided to get someone in to do this as I'm simply not taking the risk of sawing the boards when I've got no idea what's inderneath and where, even if I'm using a mini circular saw as it's just not something I've used before / am familiar with; and value my life more than my wallet! We...

    Sink plug stuck

Neither the Hoover nor rubber suction cup have shifted it. Looks like I'm drilling and then using self tapping screw as it's almost impossible to get round the back of the sink without getting a plumber in.

It's a lever type. Will give the Blu tak / Hoover a go once home - hopefully that does the trick!

Will try the blu tak. Where would we get a small rubber sucker?
