Do I need to put noggins between the joists where the existing flooring will meet the new flooring (shown as the red line in the pic below). If so, why?

Thanks for the guidance. What ppe should be worn? What should be used clothing wise / insulation wise to guard against the (small/low) probability of the saw cutting through an electric cable below the floorboards? Finally, is the handle itself insulated (I.e. In the product below), so...

So if going for a 40mm bed, then -10mm (so 30mm) up to +10mm (so 50mm) if definitely ok?

How uniform does the sub base need to be in terms of levels I.e. How much of a tolerance in depth is there allowed to be, away from our target 40mm for the mortar bed I.e. is the sub base allowed to deviate +/-5mm from this (so a 35-45mm depth of mortar)? Or +/-10mm giving a 30-50mm depth of...

Ok, we're going to scrape the sub-base back to get between 30-40mm for the mortar bed. Your last comment struck a chord - we've spent too long on this to get it wrong so an extra day or so to scrape the sub base back a little is worth it to get the job right.

So for option 3, would a 1:40 fall transverse on that section, along with the existing 1:60 longitudinal fall on the same section be too much? Should we be ruling out option 2 completely?

I was hoping you WOULDNT say that!!!! Stupidly, I've asked the question (in my previous post) AFTER levelling off (d'oh!!) - we've ran the entire level on c. 40m2 allowing 20mm throughout. We've got all our falls at 1:60 throughout, measured and levelled. Everything compacted. How would...

Thanks. When levelling off the sub base, is 20mm too little for the mortar bed for the flags?

Is it ok to use the (vibrating plate) compactor if it's raining ie does a compactor work just as effectively when it's wet outside (and the Type 1 is wet) as it does when both are dry?

If I do that (the bolster method), is there a risk that the brick riser underneath will shatter too?

Ran into a bit of a problem in our step section - last year when laying the treads on the step section, I laid the top course of slabs and somehow I've got the measurements all wrong, they're laid squint (massive facepalm), and I need to get them back up and lay fresh treads. Some pics below...

Thanks. We took out the damage waiver at an additional 10% so should be covered. Ended up running out of type 1 anyway - 9 bags in the ground; now need to order another 6 or so more; massively underestimated what was needed.

Ok, so have had the medium compactor on hire for the weekend, was working fine until late this afternoon when the starter cord burst (the knot that is tied in the plastic handle snapped). Managed to open up the compartment that the cord is housed in (the red, vented, circular compartment in...

Getting ready to lay the flooring, so need to hire the appropriate tool to cut the new boards. If we're hiring a circular saw to do the job, what exactly do we need to specify when booking the hire? I.e. Are there different types of circular saw in terms of type of blade, depth of cut etc

Thanks. So what exactly should we be specifying when hiring the machine? 80kg weight? What kind of "quality"? Does the medium version on the link below do the job? Presume we don't need the "hauc" models on these? http://www.hss.com/g/47428/Vibrating-Plate-Wacker-Plate.html...
