I got mine from poundland and it works ok i was in currys one day and overheard a salesman saying to a couple you can have this HDMI lead half price £20 and they should be £40. I bought a 5M lead from cable universe for £8 to link my pc to tv and that works perfectly. Andy

How many of you have had 240v shocks before?

When i was young i was always tinkering with tv,s/radios anyway my brother said his guitar amp was not working so i had a look and no mains to the switch. The fuse in the plug was ok so i thought the mains lead is O/C probably where the gland is so i cut a few inches off the end and then...

    which tv aerial

I am 11 miles from winter hill and putting my postcode in wolfbane says winter hill is out of range and a piece of wet string will work here as i can see the mast. Also suggests Moel-y-parc needs a Amplified extra hi-gain aerial although M/P is 32 miles i can see that mast from here as well...

DIY emergency lighting and Part P

We live in what is locally dubbed powercut alley as we had a 2 hr powercut last friday during the day so lighting wasn't a problem on this occasion but it was when we had a 5 hr powercut earlier this year. We use those led camping lights from the pound shop so we can hang them off the ceiling...

    So what happened in Blackburn?

They never mentioned what the fault was only a fault in a substation as it looks like they lost the neutral it's similar to the westhoughton incident (due to cable theft) a few years back. Andy

    Lights flickering during the rain???

A fault on the HV side can cause this effect as we have had this here but if i were you i would ask the neighbours especially next door but 2 (every third house from yours) if they are having similar problems. Of course as said you need to check your installation. Andy

I have a samsung sm2110c which has the rf out enabled my sister in law had her box replaced by the same model as mine but the rf out is disabled on her box. The newer v + boxes don't have rf out either i think they are switching it off so it doesn't upset freeview in some areas. If you...

    Confessions of a DNO engineer!

I suspect there must loads of old disused cables buried as i think there is one at the back of our house because there was an 11KV line at the back of ours. When they took the pole away i did not see them take the underground cable with them unless they pulled it from the other end if that is...

    Contacting EDF

Some flats i have seen has a separate service fuse board in a small cupboard in the communal hallway with 4 fuses,3 fuses serve the 4 flats and the 4th is for the landlords equipment (lighting/door entry systems) so it possible that the disconnection was done there. That is assuming that his...

Thats the trouble with kids they like climbing trees and if there are powerlines close to the tree we all know what can happen. I learnt at a very early age how dangerous electricity was after nearly blowing myself up in the back of old valve radios/tv's that taught me to respect electricity...

Well the trees are now cut the power went off yesterday at 08:31 until 16:44 and not surprised it took so long as there was a lot to cut. I had a walk and noticed electricity northwest had access to the property to cut the conifers so it's a good job well done. So hopefully the powercuts...
