    Powercut Waiting To Happen

Thanks for the info Westie i'll try that as when i spoke on the phone to the DNO i pointed out all i wanted is to prevent an uncontrolled powercut 3-6hrs for a broken cable as opposed to a controlled powercut during the day. Thanks paul for that info. Andy

They have probably twigged that it going to cost money so it ends up on the backburner in a queue. Hope it gets sorted sooner rather than later. Andy

    Powercut Waiting To Happen

I was thinking about permission but the property is also on the same supply as us so they are causing themselves to loose supply that is if they are aware of the problem. My security cameras have also flickering of all the street lamps on two occasions and the voltage went just low enough for...

    Powercut Waiting To Happen

I did point out that the trees was on private property and it could be dangerous if someone was to touch the trees. I do know the line was there before the trees were planted and it astounds me why people plant under power lines because trees only go one way and that is up. Some years ago...

    Powercut Waiting To Happen

We live in what is locally dubbed (powercut alley) a lot of our problems are caused by trees growing through the overhead powerlines. When our substation was renewed and the overhead 11KV powerline was refurbished and some of it being buried we thought our problems were over.It was for a...

    4mm wired 9.5kw shower - cable hasn't blown

I saw a shower that was installed in 1975 by the council that was connected to the sockets ring main. The cable to the shower was the only piece of cable in PVC the rest of the house was rubber cable. I was called to have a look at a light that was flickering when it was switched off when...

Power Shower, tingling (current?) in pipes.

Looking at the circuit diagram of this there are 2 RFI caps L-E N-E so this could be the source of the current so it looks to me that there's an earthing problem. Page 6 of the document. http://www.tritonshowers.co.uk/media/11859/as2000xt_thermostatic_ips.pdf I would hate to think what...

    Underground cable + Pick Axe = ??????

A slap on the wrist should have read the post more carefully. When they cabled the street were i live people were digging the cables and they had to come back and bury them deeper. Electrical cables 8-9" inches sounds a bit dangerous if it was laid that way in the first place but of course...

    Underground cable + Pick Axe = ??????

It's may be CATV cable they are not buried very deep and they do go across lawns which why people keep digging them up. So assuming you don't have cable tv/phone but you can tell by look at the pavement outside your house you should see a box in the pavement with CATV on it. andy

    TV Aerial Socket

If the reception is ok when it's dry now i would do what flameport has suggested. The coax is solid dielectric (inner insulation) so the problem is the corrosion that has takem place will eventually get worse so trying to undo the screws might break the aerial so it might be worth leaving it as...

    TV Aerial Socket

The cap has probibly split or has not been fitted properly but you can't buy replacement caps and by now i would imagine that connections are likely to be corroded. The coax is double screened so if it needs replacing then you need satellite grade coax which is available from any aerial...
