i used to bend them out slightlythen slide hamme handle in between them and bend back so that they were running parallel. Nice and easy to do your bending and measuring then.

you say downstairs tap gets red hot . When you run shower, how hot does the dhw pipe directly under the boiler get in comparison to the water at your shower/taps? If there is a considerable difference your shower may be back feeding possibly? Try isolating dhw at blr and open shower or bath...

I'm imagining that you've got whats called a combination or "fortec" cylinder around here. If this is the case I doubt you will be able to pump off this. I think you will find that the header would be depleted to quickly by the pump.

as johnd's post. for a four bed detached 30 kw sounds oversized. I would have a look at the energy saving trust's whole house heating load calculation and possibly speak to your installer as to what the reasoning is behind such a large blr if there is a large discrepancy between the two.

System boiler will only heat water in the tank. It is possible to use a combi as a system boiler with instant hot water to a specific outlets where deadlegs would be a problem.

P.S i should really advise against DIY repairs on your boiler. Most op's on here won't give advice on gas related work. Essentially your boiler is classed as a gas fitting, and without wanting to open up an age old debate (here we go), you should be qualified and competent to work on them. As...
