What screws/plugs to use to attach skirting to a solid wall?

Thanks for the replies guys! As far as wall plugs go, I guess these cheap red rawlplugs will do fine? Or do I need the more expensive "uno" version? As far as screws go, what diameter would I need? I can see there are double and single countersunk (csk?!) screws, what is the difference and...

    Paying the Price - twice

After buying our supposedly "finished" place, I now find myself in a position where I have no money to spare and 10 new jobs that needed doing every day because of poor craftmanship by the previous owner who was a builder. @Crystalclear our place is blessed with plaster over wallpaper as well!

What screws/plugs to use to attach skirting to a solid wall?

Removed old skirting to decorate a number of rooms. The plaster got damaged quite badly, so no way I can glue the new skirting in place. Not to mention the fact that it is an old house and there doesn't seem to be a 90 degree corner or straight wall. I've been putting this job off for 5 months...

Removing 2 walls - how to?

House was built around1976 if I'm not mistaken. Not sure what a pier is, but if it is the column in the kitchen, then it is quite wide. Roughly 60cm I think. It does. Thanks!

Removing 2 walls - how to?

Would you mind specifying where you would build it, as there already is a wall there. It's not 100% clear to me. The idea was to keep it there, as spanning the whole length would touch the neighbours' wall, adding complication and cost. Reasoning behind taking this out is that the room is...

Removing 2 walls - how to?

Hi All, We just bought our first house, so go easy on me as I’m not an experienced DIY’er. I have read the documentation available on this site, but am still confused. We’re hoping to remove 2 walls to open up the space downstairs and maybe in a year or so put in a bigger kitchen. The problem...

Fitting a door which only needs the top planed

Planning to buy an electric plane tonight for this. So you would hang it first and plane it second?

Fitting a door which only needs the top planed

I believe it is almost even, yes. Although I guess I won't find out until I've fitted it (as I said, complete novice here). I was hoping to leave the hinges side alone and just plane a bit of the top on the other side. Not sure that would work though - nor whether it would be visible that I only...

Fitting a door which only needs the top planed

Just getting in to DIY, so I'm not sure how much the gap is as I've only got a regular tape measure which isn't that accurate. But we're likely talking 2mm as I tried just pushing the door in, and it almost fit. I can fit the bottom in up to about 1m, then the top starts getting stuck. The...

Fitting a door which only needs the top planed

There are tons of videos out there for how to do this, but they all describe how to do the whole side of the door. I've got a new door to fit in a very old doorframe and the top is narrower than the bottom. How do I plane this so it doesn't look horrible? Plane from the top until where I marked...
