    Underfloor heating and extra height

Hi All. We're currently re-fitting the kitchen and I want to install underfloor heating. The current floor is concrete but i'm worried about the additional height acheived by all the required parts. Insulation board adhesive, 6mm of insulation board, 3mm thickness of heat mat, then the...

To downlight or not to downlight that is the question?

What are the warm up times like on those though, the ones I have in my shop although brighter take a time to warm up. I want instant light. And even so, they are still more expensive to run than the LED's although I can see that you wouldn't need as many.

    my garage refurb

Nice work Can I ask, how much did you have to pay to get rid of the asbestos cement roof sections from the garage, as I wouldn't mind doing the same.

To downlight or not to downlight that is the question?

The main part of the kitchen doesnt have any wall units as there are two large windows.

To downlight or not to downlight that is the question?

On another note, I do agree with your "spares" comments. Do you think it would be better to go down the standard fitting route with a 9w LED GU10 / MR16 which CAN be replaced.

To downlight or not to downlight that is the question?

Pendants, erm, no way, lighting of this type in a kitchen is so so poor. In a living area, bedroom etc, yes fine, I will not be blitzing the house with holes! However in the kitchen I want good work light. I could go down the hallogen downlighter route and fit it all out for a hundred...

To downlight or not to downlight that is the question?

Well it's not really. It's more i want to use downlights as the start up time on CFL's is annoying and dimming them doesnt actually save any money. SO, I was going down the hallogen downlight route, I was looking at 13 for the kitchen. 3.2m x 5m in a 3 x 2 x 3 x 2 x 3 formation. BUT, I...

    Hidding Cables

I was talking more about audio / video than power. Power will be taken from the new kitchen circuit and will be separate from the video feed. The ceilings comimg down so new power is not a problem.

    Hidding Cables

Hi All, I'm just about to refit the kitchen / dining room and we are going to wall mount a 27 / 32" TV. The TV will be mounted on an outside wall below an upstairs bedroom, do you think it would be a wise idea to run the cables through a conduit of some sort into the ceiling void, so IF I...

    New Kitchen Electrics

Ahh, the Part P reply. I knew it would come lol! I will do the initial install, cable runs, etc all to spec, but all will be checked by a qualified electrician before HE installs the new CU and signs it off. I'm not that stupid! I hope

    New Kitchen Electrics

Hi All. I'm in the process of re-fitting my kitchen. Currently there is an old Wylex Fuse Board and only 1 ring throughout the whole house + the cooker feed. I'm thinking it would be best practice to put in a new ring or radial to the kitchen, one for the sockets (theres only one at...

    My CFL Downlights, finished!!!

12 for £20 NICE! I'm in the process of refitting my kitchen and do like the idea of this style of lighting. Can I ask you a couple of questions. 1. is 1 x 18w per unit enough? 2. Where did you get the dimmable ballasts. 3. What do you find the best position for the lights? Did you...

Kitchen Project :: Finished! (well nearly)

Well things are moving on now so I thought I would start some updates as things progress. I got a quote from a local builder to remove the back door, brick and block up, supply and install 1 window, remove the internal wall and make good. He wanted £2500! I laughed at him. Before we...

    Brick Matching

HI Guys Popped to EHSmith yesterday as they had all 4 of the series in stock. The Windsor was far too red, and the Ironstone is very yellow, definetely what they used in next doors conservatory. However the Milton Buff and the Brecken Grey look like the best matches. I think I will...
