    So if it is alteration does it mean I need to get it certified or something like that? I’m now beginning to wonder if I’m better off just buying socket converters instead. Which is a shame as I’ve already purchased the sockets and pattresses that I need- and opened a packet.

    But would the same apply if I am not using socket converters but will instead be using double sockets and surface boxes?

    Well I’m removing two single sockets and replacing them with double sockets. Not sure how “different” you consider that to be, but I will certainly follow the advice of those more qualified than me!

    And I’m going to hastily add that so far only 1 person has told me I need a Type A RCD. Everyone else has said it will be fine.

    I’ve been plugging all sorts of stuff in for years and I’ve never had any problems. Never even heard of a Type A RCD before today either.

    I have to say I find this debate very interesting. Interesting that I’m not the only person who has asked for advice about upgrading sockets etc on here and yet none of those people were told they had to get a Type A RCD.

    What does that mean? I’m not adding any additional sockets, just replacing two single sockets with double sockets.
