Loft conversions that get too hot

Isn't it the case that the reason there is a draft in the hall is because warm air rises, but as the air cools, it becomes heavier and drops down the hallway which is why people shouldn't open the lounge into the hall as they'll be suffering the downdraft

Loft conversions that get too hot

Interesting CJ My neighbours one was done 4 years ago (30's mid terrace) so it would be done correctly and that used to get pretty warm in the summer. Are you saying that the cure would be 300mm of celotex on the flat roof and all sides?

Loft conversions that get too hot

This is purely a general question, it seems all loft conversions get too hot in the summer......has this problem been overcome yet? (forgetting using aircon or mega ventilation)

Nightmare using compression fittings on plastic heating pipes

of course I don't Sandy....................I'm just a normal bloke that don't stay in all the time looking up how products are tested!! Ignoring your comments (which have arrived waaay too late to actually be helpful!!) it's interesting that another rad I have temporarily plumbed in with grey...

Nightmare using compression fittings on plastic heating pipes

How can anyone realistically give a 50 year guarantee on something that hasn't been around that long being that it has to undergo heat/ cold expansion cycles and under chemical attack from corrosion inhibitor? and even better, how many people would still have their receipt to actually be able...

Nightmare using compression fittings on plastic heating pipes

I've been doing DIY plumbing for 30yrs.............I'm no expert but I can do it. I wanted to run plastic pipes (with pipe insulation too) under the floorboards because it can withstand freezing temps better and for the first time I'm using brass compression fittings with inserts in the pipes...

Can't work out how many BTU's my extended room needs

It's a ground floor extension at the rear of my 30's semi. The new bit is 4m out 7metres wide, made from 215mm solid aircrete blocks with 65mm PUR foam thermal plasterboard on dabs on two sides. The party wall is a 100mm block cavity wall with 40mm celotex in the cavity (nextdoor also has built...

    size of roof timbers?

Being a bit of a wombat, I can't answer this, but I bet a few of you clever ones can, I need to put up roof timbers to span my 15 degree pitch rear single storey extension, it goes out 4 metres and will have Redland low pitch concrete roof tiles on top, I'm guessing 8 x 2, but guessing isn't the...

    Using external render beads

I'm uncertain as to whether 2 sets of beads have to be used...............The thermalite walls are up, the scratch coat needs to go on, so I presume render beads are nailed on and the scratch coat can then be applied and levelled to the edge of those beads. when the second coat is to be...

Pebbledashing with large white marble chippings?

when the builders have finished my walls (9" tarmac toplite standard blocks) I'd like them to pebbledash it, but I don't want to use the usual spar aggregate as I think it's too small (about 4mm) and therefore it has no weight when hurled at the wall and consequently don't penetrate very far n...

Connecting an MDPE pipe to a lead main

I'd like to replace the section of lead main entering the house where my builders are building a porch and digging out foundations. Is there a reliable trouble free coupler that will do this?
