    Electric shock from Water !!!!

Sorry, I missed the bit about the other properties. In that case, no I don't think it is a problem with your house wiring.

    Electric shock from Water !!!!

Not necessarily. It could be a loose wire in your consumer unit.

    Total Control Electricity (Scotland)

My question concerns the law with regard to potential abuse of the half price electricity. My friends would like to have a couple of the portable halogen type heaters they could take from room to room and give supplementary heat but if it is illegal to have a 13 amp socket on a cheap rate supply...

    Making a garage dual purpose

Rather than fix vertical posts direct to the concrete floor the usual method would be to fit a bottom rail and then fix your posts to that. I would not make the doors more than 600mm wide. Your partition wall should be of similar constructin but of 100 x 50mm timber at 600mm centres. This is so...

    Electric shock from Water !!!!

Yes, it sounds like the power used in the house is not going through the incoming neutral but taking a circuitous route though the supply earth. This earth is joined to the neutral at some point outside the property. The earth wiring does not have as high a current capacity as the main meter...

    OCEAN Washing machine

Usually with these symptoms you can see or feel what's wrong. Take off the lid and back panel, look for loose concrete blocks, broken springs or shock absorbers. On some washers the shock absorbers themselves don't tend to fail but they can tear out of the base of the machine. You also need to...

    Total Control Electricity (Scotland)

Some friends are extending their house and have asked me to do the wiring work. They have Total Control electricity, supplied by Scottish Hydro. I was not too familiar with the regulations appertaining to this tariff so I read the PDF on the SCARF website. It seems you can have a certain...

Hotpoint First Edition 1200 WM 35 brushes problem

The brush holders are held in by a clip formed in the plastic which needs to be squeezed toward the main body of the holder before the holder can be pulled out. You do this using a screwdriver slid in the slot in the motor casing next to the clip. The insulating sleeves on the spade connectors...

Whirlpool AWM 6100/s stops mid cycle

Take the belt off and turn the drum and the motor shaft by hand to see which is making the noise. If the motor is clicking you probably need a new motor as it will most likely be a loose commutator segment. If the drum is clicking it may just be something caught between the inner and outer drums.

Whirlpool AWM1400 Washer - Will only drain

You can indeed bypass the door interlock but if you join the wrong 2 wires you will do some expensive damage! If you have an electricians test screwdriver you may be able to test the operation of the existing interlock. If you detach the door seal from the cabinet and unscrew the interlock you...

Hoover washing machine won’t drain - broken pump impellor?

In cases like this I usually take the machine outside to drain it so you don't flood the room. You then tip the machine up at an angle so you can see underneath it and remove the sump hose where it goes onto the bottom of the tub. You will prably find a sock or something stuck in the hose. I...

    zanussi wont spin

Have you checked the filter? It will not go onto spin until the water has drained out so if it is draining too slowly it will reach the end of the programme without being ready to spin.

Servis Gem 1000 automatic washing machine disaster

Take the back off and look at the thermostats. These are near the bottom of the outer drum and fit in rubber grommets. Sometimes the belt can catch on the thermostat wires and pull it out of the drum.
