    carbon brush ,renewall

Some people release them before fitting them to the motor, just to be sure they release. If you do that you have to use a screwdriver or little finger to keep the carbon pushed in until the holder is partially slid into the motor, otherwise the carbon will snap off. :)

    Cylinder Stat

The stat is about half way up the cylinder. I must admit that the hot water from the taps felt hotter than I expected after feeling the bare patch on the cylinder. As for the contact, I did wonder about using some heat conducting grease, as used for power transistor heatsinks (I have some...

Help - heating driving me crazy

You may have a hidden leak somewhere causing the loss of pressure. An airlock may have thus got in and stopped the downstairs circuit. How old is the radiator system? Another possibility is pump failure and the upstairs rads may still work by gravity. If this is the case you probably find the...

    Cylinder Stat

Central heating is not quite my usual field but I was asked to look at a cylinder stat today. The system is fully pumped with individual zone valves for central heating and hot water. The customer complained that the DHW was getting too hot. He had already had a new cylinder stat fitted but it...

    Hoses

Ah, I had assumed the old ones had also failed  , perhaps they are just faulty then.

    Hoses

It looks like a pressure problem then. The boiler should have a pressure restrictor on the hot water but this might not be working. If your house water supply pressure is too high you should contact your local water company and they can fit a restrictor.

Do you have a combi boiler by any chance?

    Why only cold fill ??

The latest machines don't use as much water as older models so the energy savings from hot fill are less significant. Many machines only draw hot water on the higher temperature washes anyway so if you mainly use the 40 degree programmes you might as well get a cold fill machine. Another factor...

WD - dryer not working - fuse blows after 5-10 min

You need to look inside the fan, heater and condenser to check for any build up of fluff. If anything is preventing proper air flow the heater will tend to overheat. I'm not sure what you mean by "automatic fuses", are these in the machine itself?

    Hoses

Perhaps your hot water is too hot? The hoses may be marked with the maximum temperature and pressure. You can buy or borrow a meter that screws on instead of the washing machine hose to measure the pressure. The hosing material may take 10 bar pressure but the crimped joints at the end are the...

hoover hw130m washer/drier NOT drying HELP!

It sounds like the machine is not draining properly so it won't ever get as far as the drying function. You need to check for an obstruction in the pump or associated plumbing.

    Servis Washer/Dryer - not spinning

Try it with the machine empty or with dry washing in, if it still won't spin it is probably a timer fault and perhaps time for a new machine. Another possibility is a blocked pressure vessel but this would give other symptoms like overfilling or not filling at all.

    washing up liquid

When the base is drained out it would be wise to leave it a couple of days to dry out before trying it, in case any electrical parts got wet.

Panasonic microwave oven works for about 20 second and stop!

Magnetrons do get quite hot when run for long periods like 15 minutes. It is better to try to avoid having the microwave on full power for that long but the lower power settings are OK as there will be off periods when the magnetron can cool down.

    Indesit 1263W Washing Machine Problems

That is an insulation test and can prove that you have a fault but can't prove that you don't have a fault. The ohms measurement with a multimeter only applies a few volts and the insulation might be fine at that voltage but may be breaking down at mains voltage. For this reason the...

    Indesit 1263W Washing Machine Problems

I don't think that later motor will fit though I may be wrong. Indesit are notorious for changing the design of parts frequently. For example, the later machines have a finer pitch to the belt grooves so you need a different belt. Another difference you are likely to find is the length of the...

    Indesit 1263W Washing Machine Problems

The test for shorted turns can be done with the faulty module, thats why I said to drain the water before you plug in the motor as it will go straight to full speed. The clothes will still be wet though so it will be worked as hard as normal. I don't think there should be a problem with using...

    Bendix Tricity Washing Machine

These filters rarely go wrong but there should certainly be mains voltage coming out of it. They are quite a standard item so you don't have to find an exact replacement. If you still have an old machine you might be able to use the filter off that. They usually have a label showing how to wire...

    Indesit 1263W Washing Machine Problems

For the symptom you describe the triac would be short circuit, not open circuit. If he can solder in a new one cheaply then I would let him. The fault could indeed be down to chafed wires so you do need to check this out. To check for shorted turns you could put the machine back together as it...
