Would this be classed as a Rear or Side extension?

Also would a L shape from the rear to the porch likely be permitted? Edit: Just to add, the porch is an original feature of the house.

Would this be classed as a Rear or Side extension?

Hi folks, see below a rough (very rough lol) diagram of the terrace of houses in the street we live. Our house is the end house which has the porch and door to the side, unlike the other houses which have the porch and door at the front. Our rear door (patio window) is in the same place as...

Hall to Living room door removal and Building Regulations

Hi folks, Quick question. Currently we have a door between the living room and the hall (A). If I removed this and replaced it with an arch (B), would this still comply with building regulations? Cheers

    Building Regulations,radiator in downstairs cloak/showerroom

Ah, I was only going to get a dinky 70x40mm one, as the room is less than 1.5 x 1.5m. Like I say, I'm not sure it will need it because of the fact there's radiators surrounding the other side of the stud walls of the room, but I haven't a clue if building regulations allow no radiator at all.

    Building Regulations,radiator in downstairs cloak/showerroom

Dangerously hot for kids you mean? A high one might be a good move then after all :).

    Building Regulations,radiator in downstairs cloak/showerroom

Alternatively if it is needed (or everyone here thinks I'm crazy thinking about a shower room without a radiator lol), I'm debating whether a heated towel rail above the toilet cistern would be a good idea or a ridiculous concept lol.

    Building Regulations,radiator in downstairs cloak/showerroom

Morning folks, We've been in the slow process of building a downstairs cloakroom off the hall for some time now. The room itself is big enough to shoehorn a small shower cubicle with enough room to walk in, and while being compact, will not be ridiculously small. I'm just wondering what...

    Plastering over Sand/Cement Mortar?

There's a strip around 10-15cm wide by about 3m high where the old stud was fastened direct to the blockwork, I might also have to chip away in the middle section slightly as the current plaster isn't of the same level on what was both sides of the old wall. This section of the hallway isn't...

    Plastering over Sand/Cement Mortar?

Hi people, After removing some stud walls, we have a couple of areas of bare block that the studs were fastened to. There's about 15mm to make up in these areas. As I have plenty of sand/cement, I was debating whether it would be possible to make up most of this deficit with mortar, then...

Radiators much noisier since a radiator has been removed

Aye, I was thinking/hoping it could be down to increased flow. In which case presumably once the removed radiators (and extra ones) are back in, it should hopefully quieten down a bit then?

Radiators much noisier since a radiator has been removed

This could be coincidental, but I'm keen to get to the bottom of it. We recently had a radiator taken out and the pipework capped by a local gas fitter/plumber as a temporary measure, as it was on a partition wall which was to be moved. Since then, the other radiators are all much much...

    Water mains, and speedfit elbow....opinions

They had a pet beaver  The plastic stuff doesn't fill me with confidence, I had one break on me, with what I thought was minimal persuasion....hope that was just a combination of a faulty/weak seal and me being clumsy, rather than a sign of things to come. Have just replaced the...

    Water mains, and speedfit elbow....opinions

Hi everyone Before we bought our house, we rented, and while we were renting, the kitchen was changed by the housing association we rented from. Below is some work on the plumbing that was done by the housing association a few months prior to us buying the house. That speedfit elbow...

    Coucil property

I dunno if your Council is anything like the Housing Association that looks after the rented houses in my street, but in our case all the elderly and disabled people (and there's quite a few) have to do is ring their housing officer and she sends gardeners out to make changes. My mothers...

    Porch and ky TV cable?

These days I always assume the worst will happen if there's any chance at all of any misunderstanding about something like this, and do it meself or supervise it. Have learned the hard way about differing expectations and all that malarky.

Futureproofing new WBP floor against water damage....

Might as well ask, if I'm going for 6mm backer board (daren't go higher as I've already raised the floor level), what's the best practice way to bond it to the WBP....screws (specific screws?), adhesive (what type?), or both? Also I'm guessing I should waterproof the bottom and sides of the...

Futureproofing new WBP floor against water damage....

This week I've ripped up the rest of our horrible chipboard floating floor in the kitchen. There had been a couple of leaks and some bodged repairs from our former landlords (housing association) before we bought it. The floor was in some state under the vinyl tiles, spongey, black, smelly...

    planning permission needed?

For the record if this post is connected, and you have spent £5000 on it, like it states in the other post, I feel your pain. It goes to show you can never be too careful when it comes to taking the words of others and doing your own research. I spent years (yes, I'm that anal lol) researching...
