    Removing lockshield extension tail

That could be a life-saver, thanks! I can't find measurements, but it's so cheap that I'll just order one and see if it fits :)

Thank you. Not sure which type you mean. Would you have a link or pic, please?

    Removing lockshield extension tail

Ah, that's not a problem, there would be some slack at some other point on the circuit. However, I'm more worried about the possibility of not having enough room to properly tighten the ptfe joint, so I guess I'll try to keep the tail. Thanks for all the answers!

    Removing lockshield extension tail

Hi, I have a standard radiator (1/2" female bsp) on which I'm installing a new lockshield/TRV kit. The lockshield is similar to this: What happens if I remove the nut and everything on its left in the pic, and screw the valve directly into the radiator (with PTFE)? This would simplify my...

Reason for usual HW shutoff valve location

In a conventional system, the standard arrangement is to have a gate valve on the (typically 28mm) cold feed pipe from cistern to cylinder. Out of curiosity, I was wondering why you won't find it on the hw pipe (typically 22mm) going out of the cylinder instead. Of course, positioned after the...

How do I clear a blockage in microbore pipe?? Help!!

Apologies for the necro-threading, but I have a similar problem with my old 8mm microbore rad piping (in a conventional vented CH/HW with loft cistern and FE tanks), so I was wondering if OP had attempted anything and could report. Basically, my system is not blocked, it works ok. But it is VERY...

Adding tee on feed pipe to drain system

I am definitely installing a mag filter, I just got it delivered (it's an IntaKlean Compact) :) Then I'll do the routine you suggest with cleaner and inhibitor. Thanks again!

Adding tee on feed pipe to drain system

    Enlightening, thank you!

Adding tee on feed pipe to drain system

I understand that, and, as I said, I already have a standard drain which is on the lowest point. However, I think that using that drain implies flushing a lot of the water, in particular that coming from F&E, through the boiler, which I don't like. My thinking is that, installing a further drain...

Adding tee on feed pipe to drain system

Hi, I have a two-pipe fully pumped S plan open vented system. When I drained it last time, I had the impression there is some sludge or dirt around it. I therefore am going to drain it again to install a magnetic filter. I was thinking of taking this chance to add a tee on the feed pipe (the...

    CWS float valve: part1/2 compatibility

It's plastic, sorry, and it looks ok. My question was more about the compatibility: i.e., will it fit on the new valve? (sorry, the valve hasn't arrived yet, so I cannot try myself; just thought to save some time and ask)

    CWS float valve: part1/2 compatibility

So I ordered a part 2 to replace my broken part 1, but now I have a silly question: can I keep the old rubber ball? Or do I need to buy a new one?

    CWS float valve: part1/2 compatibility

You're right: mine doesn't work, too. Totally baffling (I see no connection with covid). Copy/paste should work: https://www.screwfix.com/p/fluidmaster-brass-part-2-float-valve-/978FY

    CWS float valve: part1/2 compatibility

Thank you, that's cheap. Link has some problem for me, I edited it a bit and hope this works: Fluidmaster Brass Part 2 Float Valve ½" (978FY)

    CWS float valve: part1/2 compatibility

Thanks for your useful replies. Still choosing what to buy: now the choice is between plastic seat and brass seat (more expensive). I am again clueless, as couldn't find much on google about why that matters. Any idea?

    CWS float valve: part1/2 compatibility

Ok, thanks, I'm deciding now what to buy. Partially related: do you know why the valves I'm looking to buy all specify "Side Entry" in their description? Should I care about that when choosing? :) I googled to no avail. I know, but now I have the habit of attaching this clarification just in...

    CWS float valve: part1/2 compatibility

Tonight the arm of the ballcock feeding the cold water storage cistern in my attic broke (quite puzzling: maybe due to strong wind causing some turbulence??). Anyway, I need to replace it. I know it's faster to replace only the part inside the tank, undoing the very last compression nut. But...

One isolating valve on both loft tanks inputs?

Ok, then I assume FE is not an exception to what you say. And that having the valve directly in the attic or beneath the kitchen sink doesn't matter. Thanks!

One isolating valve on both loft tanks inputs?

Hi, just after the mains stopcock under my kitchen sink I have a tee, one pipe to drinkable water+washing machine and the other to the loft cisterns (talking about an open vented pumped S-plan system, standard here in UK). I was wondering whether it is safe to add an isolating valve on the...

    Pex pipe-boiler: aerial distance

Thanks for asking. An old natural gas boiler (output to water min 8.79, max 11.72 kW) feeding HW and 6 radiators (2 big, 2 medium and 2 smallish), all currently in microbore, of which I heard many complaints, therefore I'm adding 2 rads using 15mm.
