Decking frame - Posts onto concrete slabs ok?

I am building a deck in my back garden. The ground is fairly level (now after getting rid of some soil) and is very compacted. Would it be OK to dig in the outside legs into the ground (to avoid the deck moving) and then for the rest, put the membrane down, put concrete slabs down below...

    Fixing Celotex to brick wall

I have a small area surround a large opening (3.6m) which I am looking to insluate (50mm) and then plaster board. The wall is an uninsulated cavity wall so fixing directly to the inside skin should not cause any damp issues. On one side there is only around 100mm width and the other 250mm width...

Air bricks venting room instead of trickle vents

I have just had some windows installed and by mistake forgot to get trickle vents installed (had it on all the quotes except the one i took) The building inspection mentioned that i should have some but an alternative would be to put in an airbrick high up the wall which had a switchable vent...

Replacing Drayton LP522 with Tempus 6

I have an old LP522 programmer on my central heating system. While it does function well not having the boost button has annoyed me for years and i always get caught out by it by leaving the heating on when I go to bed etc when i don't mean to. Am I right in thinking the LP522 and the Tempus...

    Screwed or screwless?

What do you mean? Do you mean covering the screws? If so - the style of handle i have within the house conseals all the fittings

    Screwed or screwless?

It all comes down to the quality of what you are doing IMO. If you are doing a top quality installation where clean lines etc are important then I would go for screwless. When you put skirting on the walls you try and cover up all the fixing points/nails, joins IMO its the same for sockets. If...

    Part P

No offence but for the amount of difference this would make it would just be another industry bolster with a load of electricians making easy money. They screwed it up by not making the Survey part of the house pack but that of course would benifit everyone bar seller & surveyours. Much like the...

Have to agree - he clarified a situation perfectly for me

    Part P

I don't think Part P will have made any difference to the people it was claimed it was going to stop which was the people had no-clue at all doing VERY dangerous things and endangering lives. IMO These people will carry on just as before. They didn't care about regs etc before so why should...

    Eaves Tiles - Angle

After a bit of playing around I have managed it so they are sitting at the same angle as the rest of the tiles so job done.

    minimum depth of footing .

It all comes down to your local building control department. Give them a ring and tell them what you are looking to do. They will probably be able to pop out and take a look and let you know if you will be able to reuse or have to redig. Also means you don't end up paying lots for buildings...

Two light circuits off a single FCU?

Gotcha - So to fully comply with BS 7671 you would need it tested but proof of this testing is not required by Building Regs So you can do all the work to BS 7671 and then don't do the testing your 'technically' are not BS 7671 compliant but other than that its fine.

Two light circuits off a single FCU?

Yes 2 double sockets is fine as its an extension to an existing room which already has suffient electrical supplies. This is not a new circuit, this is a change to the existing circuit which comes back to the whole do you need to fully test any change i.e. changing socket?

Two light circuits off a single FCU?

OK So all work applies to Part-P thats fine. I don't have any problems making sure the work is to the right BS standard, I want it to be which is why I started the thread (rather than just ignoring all the standards and guessing) Its the whole "You need to have it tested to be compliant with...

Two light circuits off a single FCU?

You see this is where its all very confusing for us mere mortals. Where is there a list of things that do not fall under Part-P? Does everything. Do you need to get replacing a socket tested? The way I read the paragraph below adding a new socket and FCU into an existing ring main is not...

Two light circuits off a single FCU?

I agree I will not be carrying out full testing on the work but I don't think that means that the work is not to spec. Cuurently there is no requirement for the work I am going to be carrying out to be certified and thus tested.

Two light circuits off a single FCU?

And why would it not? As mentioned Sockets and the interior lighting on the same circuit can comply with 314.2 which is a very poorly wored regulation

Two light circuits off a single FCU?

I asked BC about the sockets and they had no problems with it and mentioned that as long as its not in the kitchen/bathroom or a new ring then it would not be notifiable but would have to conform to standards i.e. what the rules are for any other council out there? As mentioned by...

    Eaves Tiles - Angle

yeah i think the roof will work fine and due to it being such a low pitch its not resulted in the first row being too sloped such that the water would run off at a silly speed. Annoyingly to move it up would be quite a bit of hastle and also make the facia even bigger which I am trying to...
