    Boiler cycling - continuing problems!

@bengasman - That was my first thought, is it a DIY job to replace? I don't believe I'd need to open the case so no need for a CORGI...? @namsag - No, when the programmer, room stat and/or tank stat aren't calling for heat it doesn't cycle, it stays off. It only cycles when there's a genuine...

    Boiler cycling - continuing problems!

I thought not. What could cause this? The pump appears to be running freely and is set to max speed. Is the pump knackered, or is the boiler stat shot? Cheers, Andy

    Boiler cycling - continuing problems!

Hi All, I've just had a blocked cold feed remedied (cut out and replaced with plastic pipe for some reason). With that done, I still have an issue with my boiler (Potterton profile 60e serving 11 radiators) cycling whilst heating the system. Once the room stat is satisfied it turns off as...

    Boiler cycling on and off

I have two tanks, the F&E is in the loft and the cold water tank is in a cupboard in the upper floor (don't ask me why); this is the one with the vent pipe over it. The vent over tne CW tank is 22mm but the feed for teh F&E tank is smaller. Will this have an effect on the boiler cycling...

    Boiler cycling on and off

I suspected this a long time ago as the system didn't refill following a drain down and had to be filled from the mains. The plumber said that it wasn't blocked and was just a weirdly designed system. When filled from the mains the level in the hot water tank rose and overflowed which seems to...

    Boiler cycling on and off

Hmm, I solved a problem of constantly having to bleed air out of the radiators by turning down the pump - not sure how/why this worked. My system is *very* weird so bear with me. I have a tank in the loft which has the cold feed going into it, but I don't have a vent pipe, no idea why as I...

    Boiler cycling on and off

I do have the pump set at the lowest setting. I found that otherwise the cavitation (spelling?) caused lots of air to enter the system! The house was a 3 bed end of terrace, but has been extended with 2 extra rooms downstairs; would you say the boiler was overpowered?

    Boiler cycling on and off

Yes I have both a room and water thermostat with a motorized 2 zone control valve. Until the room thermostat is up to temperature the boiler cycles like this, after that it shuts down as expected. Not sure about the water, I don't really pay much attention to it as it's only on for half on...

    Boiler cycling on and off

Hi, I hope this is an easy question! Having fixed a few problems with my Potterton Profile 60e I'm wondering why it cycles on and off. It will run for a minute or two, shut itself off, then fire up again in another couple of minutes. This goes on and on. Do I have the boiler thermostat...

No water from pump when bleeding?

That's a bit much, any cheaper quotes?

No water from pump when bleeding?

Thanks for all the replies guys, your insight has been really helpful. Given that I'm down to replacing the cold feed and potentially converting to a sealed system (the boiler is a Profile 60e which has an overheat cut out) could any of you offer a ballpark figure for this work in the south...

No water from pump when bleeding?

I've walloped the tee where it splits between heating and water quite hard, but with no effect. I applied a magnet and there is an attraction, albeit weak. Would sludge remover unblock this if I put in in the f&e tank? I guess it would get down the pipe in some amount?

No water from pump when bleeding?

Well the circumference of the pipe is around 55mm, which divided by pi means around 17-18mm in diameter. The system was installed in the 70's by servowarm and apparently they did strange things!

No water from pump when bleeding?

It looks like 18mm to me (the smaller of the 2 diameters of pipe that I seem to have in the house). Maybe some Mr. Muscle sink unblocker would do the job... ;)

No water from pump when bleeding?

The ball valve is fine (it's brand new). I tried sticking an air pump down the feed pipe to shift the blockage but didn't have any luck. Will pouring sludge remover into the f/e tank shift it? That's something I've yet to try. Does the system need to be drained down afterwards? I'm...

No water from pump when bleeding?

You had to ask......! The pump/boiler are making weird gurgling noises, thinking that there could be air in the pump I want to bleed it. In addition, in case it makes a difference, I think I have a part-blocked cold feed. I get air/gas in my upstairs radiators and when I bleed them I get...

So any ideas why I'm not getting any water out of it? Cheers, Andy

No water from pump when bleeding?

I have a big plastic nut. If I unscrew it, it just keeps turning. I don't want to pull it too hard incase it breaks the thing! Edit - If I unscrew it and pull it out it will come a short way, then if I turn it, it feels as though it's turning "something" inside the pump - I can feels the...

No water from pump when bleeding?

Hi All, When I try to bleed my pump (running or not) I don't get a hiss of air, or a drip of water. Any idea what's wrong and how to fix it? Cheers, Andy
