    Boiler going on/off regularly

Thanks for all the replies nickso. I'm guess the pump is good (well working anyway) as everything get hot around the house. Just struck me as odd that it comes on and off like that. Friends have boilers that seem to run continuously! I know the heating is still calling, so I guess the...

    Boiler going on/off regularly

I kind find anything like this on the system (I've grown to know it quite well). All rads get hot so I assume that any hidden gate valves would be open. I have a motorized 3 port valve upstairs (I have a strange system), which operates CH/HW/Both etc. I'm sat listening to the boiler now...

    Boiler going on/off regularly

Sorry, no, the pump is very quiet. It is vibrating if I touch it though. Both feed and return pipes to the boiler are hot to the touch (about equally). What/where is the bypass?

    Boiler going on/off regularly

Sometimes it kettles a little. I had it serviced recently and the nPower (servowarm) engineer didn't spot anything wrong.

    Boiler going on/off regularly

The Rads seem fine for the most part. Some get hotter than others so probably a balancing issue. Many rads have TRVs but not all The pump is a celcius multi head at setting 3 (max) pumping 1800 somethings! I'm not sure what bypass you're talking about.

    Boiler going on/off regularly

Sorry, forgot that rather obvious bit of information! It's a potterton profile 60e... :D

    Boiler going on/off regularly

Hi All, When my heating/water is on, my boiler seems to run for multiple short periods at a time...on...off...on...off. Is that normal? I have the boiler stat turned to max and the pump also set to max. My thinking is that this should heat the house up quicker. Does it sounds like the...

Potterton Profile 60e clicking wildly then cutting out

Well, I took the lower cover off (with the main off) and check all the connections were tight and it now seems ok for now. I guess I had a loose connection, of a short that was solved by wiggling! I'll arrange a full service ASAP.

Potterton Profile 60e clicking wildly then cutting out

Hi All, My Potterton Profile 60e seems to ignite fine when heat is called for, then randomly it will start clicking wildly (like the igniter is firing) and then the flame will cut out. Any ideas what this may be? Is it something I could try and fix myself? Cheers, Andy

    Leaking soil pipe vent elbow

@Bahco - No, the pipe vents out through the top of the roof. There's a hole in the roof in other words, with a raised tile above it. @sanj.varah - I would do, but it isn't dry enough for the silicone to set... :(

    Leaking soil pipe vent elbow

Thanks, will do. Will duct tape work as an interim measure?

    Leaking soil pipe vent elbow

It's a grey plastic pipe, looks to be push-fit. Having just googled it, should there be a rubber seal that I can replace?

    Leaking soil pipe vent elbow

Hi (again) all! It seem that an elbow joint on my soil pipe, just before where it vents to the environment in the loft is dripping. It's only a few drips a minute, doesn't smell bad, and everything is flushing/emptying at full pace, so I'm assuming it's just condensation or rainwater etc...

Noisy pump, rads not bleeding etc.....

I personally think the whole thing was devised and built by a small army of college drop outs....but that's just my opinion. ;) The good news (if I have this worked out) is that the water level expansion tank rises when the heating is on. I assume that, as I don't have a vent pipe, this shows...

Will do, but I'm probably wait until the warmer months...!

Noisy pump, rads not bleeding etc.....

Ok, an update......I'm warm! For how long I don't know, but it's a good start. I backfilled the system, and all rads are now full and warm. Plumber 1 blamed dodgy pipework for an airlock and hence thinks that I should be OK going forward. I'm going to bleed the rads regularly and if they...

Noisy pump, rads not bleeding etc.....

Plumber 1 is a commercial engineer (sparky, gas & water) but seems to be the most clued up by far, although in denial that it could be a blocked cold feed. Plumber 2 is a heating installer, but seemed stumped when faced with an old house! I wouldn't dare cut the feed myself as I'm not...

Noisy pump, rads not bleeding etc.....

...and so the saga continues! Plumber no. 2 looked around for a couple of hours, scratched his head, and admitted that he didn't have a clue what was going on. :( Plumber no. 1 still thinks that I should back fill the system from the mains to get it going. I think I'm going to have to give...
