Help with leaking isolation valve on CH pipe

Not much room for a "pot"...the pipe is about 2 cm above floor (carpet) level. The most I can put in is a shallow plastic container that fills quite quickly! Certainly would overflow overnight.

Help with leaking isolation valve on CH pipe

Yes, I did turn the radiator off, at both ends, but it didn't seem to make much difference. The radiator went cold, but it's one of those thermostat valves, and maybe it doesn't close off the connection completely. (Others of the same vintage have failed entirely.) I turned off the return valve...

Help with leaking isolation valve on CH pipe

HELP! Day before Christmas Eve, and a leaking compression joint on an isolation valve that connects the feed pipe to a radiator. Carpet soaked, people coming... I've tightened the joint as much as I dare and it hasn't stopped dripping. Maybe now overtightened? I can't disassemble and try a new...

piers and platform for new oil tank

So, lots of lintels to produce a solid platform? Or just sufficient lintels to support flags to achieve a solid base?

    Oil Tank Installation

    Ah, yes. Sorry. It's going to need an 1800 litre tank. Maybe something like this: Dimensions 2110 (L) x 914 (W) x 1571 (H) mm Capacity* 1750 Litres | 385 Gallons Footprint 2090 (L) x 894 (W) mm Empty Weight 220 KG

    Oil Tank Installation

I've posted the following in "Building" but thought to copy it here, following the original poster of this old thread who reckoned there'd be useful knowledge here! I need to have a new bunded plastic oil tank installed, and will be engaging an OFTEC engineer to install the pipework etc. To...

piers and platform for new oil tank

I need to have a new bunded plastic oil tank installed, and will be engaging an OFTEC engineer to install the pipework etc. To keep down costs, I'm planning on building the piers and the platform myself. I have consulted the OFTEC advice/regs...

hacks for wall mounting an oil-filled panel radiator?

Fair point Yup. Couldn't find what I might be looking for.

hacks for wall mounting an oil-filled panel radiator?

Easier said than done, perhaps? I'm not sure I'll have the skill or wherewithal for that, hence asking for suggestions for a cunning workaround! Brackets that were supplied with a model that I had to return (because too tall for the intended location) were basically right angled pieces with V...

hacks for wall mounting an oil-filled panel radiator?

It's a low-level one from Coopers of Stortford: /www.coopersofstortford.co.uk/600w-low-level-oil-filled-radiator/?SKU=9636&src=gbase&vsrc=igb9b2&dfw_tracker=38106-9636&gclid=Cj0KCQjwj9LkBRDnARIsAGQ-hUcXIy8x-S_hXBZZADkzCManrkrxoSCtX9J0F-tvlpT-1xNBPDkwdtIaAvq9EALw_wcB It has fins on the back, and...

hacks for wall mounting an oil-filled panel radiator?

Quite a few models no longer come with brackets for wall-mounting, as apparently regulations have changed. However, I still want/need to wall-mount the low level radiator I've recently purchased, and wondered if anyone has any genius hacks or ideas as to how to do so neatly, given I haven't got...

Why have CH thermostat in a hallway?

I'm sure I once read on here an explanation of why CH thermostats are often/nearly always located in a room that can often be draughty, with multiple doors opening into it, and a space in which one does not tend to linger. Seems counter intuitive that it is the temperature of this space which...

Oil CH boiler - air in the supply pipe

Thanks. Inlet and outlet also full of grot. Shank of screw that holds the filter housing toegther also rusty. Suggests water had accumulated in the filter?

Oil CH boiler - air in the supply pipe

Yes, thanks for that. I'm OK with decoking the oil chamber in the burner, wick channels, bundy pipe etc - done it lots of times. But this time it's still not burning right, and it seems that there's inadequate fuel flow to the float control. Have ordered a new filter element for the inline...

Oil CH boiler - air in the supply pipe

Thanks for that. Ah. Maybe that's what Oilboffin Bob was getting at, not wanting me to "mess" with the system. But I just restricted myself to opening the bleed valve! OTOH I am about to tinker with the supply to the Aga...after reading various bits of advice on here and elsewhere.

Oil CH boiler - air in the supply pipe

A CH engineer arrived this morning to service our boiler, despite us not having confirmed our enquiry about the possibility of this being done, and making a firm booking. Since the boiler was up and running (and also therefore too hot for him to service, in terms of cleaning the baffles etc) I...

Oil CH boiler - air in the supply pipe

Thanks. But, with all due respect to your expertise, I'm not really "messing with it" just by opening the bleed valve, am I? And I' curious as to how there's a chance I make it worse? And I am poised to get my local Heating Engineer in - just trying to do it myself if it's do-able. If it's...
