    NIC Electrician

If I wasn't confused at the start I am now. I should have said the work was done by a NIC registered sparky. The work involved spliting the incoming supply (henley block??) adding a consumer unit, putting a supply in a shed at the end of the garden and so was, in understand, notifiable...

    NIC Electrician

Just a quick one. We had some notifiable work down by an EIC registered sparky in June. Are we supposed to get some sort of certificate for the work (i.e. Corgi style) or is the reciept proof enough?

    Electric For New Shed

I have been down this route - electrics to the shed, very long garden etc. You need to get part p as it is external work - this means using someone registered or notifying council and getting it inspected. To give you some idea of costs.....we needed an additional consumer unit, cabling...

    skirting boards

Just a little pet habit of mine - I try to avoid no more nails on anything I might want to get off in future. You got your skirting boards off because they had been nailed on. What if you or someone else needs to get them off again in future? Depending on the surface these modern adhesives...

    Painting lining paper

http://www.decoratingdirect.co.uk/viewprod/m/MAVLP/ These guys supply all grade including 1700 - not sure how easy it would be to use on corners as it is that bit thicker. Never used it myself - just noticed that these guys sold it. Good luck!

    Painting lining paper

Personally, I would always go with 1200 or 1400 paper - they do even make a 1700. Not avaliable at B&Q but should be avaliable from a local decor store or trade supplier - or online - 1200 and 1400 do not cost much more. They provide good cover for inperfections, and being thicker are easier...

    Strong smell of urine

I assume you mean the head shop in Canterbury - painting his walls - now that is an idea.

    Strong smell of urine

Yes I have painted a piece of chip board and a piece of wood with the stuff and they do not smell particularly. However, I should think it is possible that something in the paint is reacting with something on the walls but does not do so with wood - and it could be that it would do so with...

    Strong smell of urine

The chap from B&Q has now been and given my walls a good sniff. Alas the smell was not too strong when he arrived (of course it stank about 2 hours after he left) Paint is being sent away for analysis, refund is on the way - but no closer to getting rid of the smell. He says they will not do...

    Laying Floor Tiles

Cheers gcol - Pretty flat means no more than a couple of mm except one small area where it is nearer 4mm-ish - will the tile adhesive take up this amount of gap? If I do not for self-leveling screed- is there a particular one people recommend and how long before you can walk/tile on the...

    Laying Floor Tiles

Hi everyone, I need to lay floor tiles on a new concrete floor and I am not sure how to go about preparing the surface. I am laying ceremic floor tiles - they are fairly cheap and fairly thin affairs. The surface is a new concrete slab which has had an inch or more of sand and cememt...

    Strong smell of urine

Just had a call from the local store - they are coming out on Monday to have a sniff and take the paint away for analysis - all good stuff......now what about that smell!

    Strong smell of urine

Cheers Ellal good to know that it is not me going mad. I phoned B&Q yesterday and they are going to get back to me today. I will be able to put your case to them if they try to wiggle out of it. Olly_k - no chance it is our cats - unless they are climbing ladders and ****ing 6 foot up the...

    Strong smell of urine

I am sure it is not the cats - I have only smelt the walls at head-height and I am 6'4" - the cats are a fairly big breed but not that big! :-) The paint does not spell in the tub. I have had a good think back and actually it was the evening of the next day that we smelt it and we had been...

    Strong smell of urine

No it has not gone yet - but is much worse after a hot day - does not really smell in the morning. Unlikely that it was pee on the wall before painting - and the new plaster paint I put on prior to this top coat did not cause any smell I am hoping it is going to wear off - but after two...

    Strong smell of urine

Hi all Just decorated a room that the previous owner had had replastered with cement (groan) so used a modern emulsion from B&Q. The paint was a little odd in that is was blancmange like in the tub and I had to water it down a little to apply it. Anyway, with a little water in went on, dried...

    rogue trader filming

Well if it is only a year of helping to rip people off then that's ok then. Is there any wonder why people have trouble trusting tradesmen!?
